Hi aargee,
Congratulations on cracking the 100K mark, the CBR is a beautiful motorcycle and the numbers you posted bear testament to the sheer quality of this machine.

I've been looking for a used ABS model for a couple of months now. Any pointers on what I should be looking out for?

Replaced the front fork oil with castrol 20w (Honda OEM is 10w). Quantity added was 350ml into each. And oh boy has the handling improved.
Changes noted:
1. Front doesn't dive under braking
2. No more bouncy ride at highway speeds
3. More planted on the corners
4. More feel of the front end.
Ride quality is compromised a bit, but not too much and is very much acceptable.

I agree. I had done the same (replaced with Motul 20w) couple of years back and the feedback from the front has increased many folds. And best part, as you have mentioned, ride quality is still acceptably plush. Coupled with the Michelin radials, it's pretty good now.

Guys,
I have picked up a used CBR 250R C-ABS (yet to name it) last Sunday from a known friend. It has 18k approx. on the ODO. Since I am taking it to Leh Ladakh this year, I went to Honda ASC (V.D. Honda) Mayapuri, Delhi to get the rear brakes pads (since braking had no effect and pads were worn) & indicator replaced (since it was broken). Also asked the SA to inspect the bike and suggest what all changes might be required. To my surprise, he came up with long list of work (approx. 10k) on which I don’t trust him much since I am new to bike and still going through the manual. The items/work he has asked to replace/get done is listed below. For the moment, I have asked him to put it on hold for now and need your suggestions or input.
1. Drive chain set – SA says that chain set life is over and shows a rear axle nut to be totally pushed back. Manual says “Check the chain wear label when adjusting the chain. If the red zone ( ) on the label aligns with the arrow mark ( ) on the chain adjuster plates after the chain has been adjusted to the proper slack, the chain is excessively worn and must be replaced.” Is it normal for chain to be replaced at 18k?
2. Discs – As per SA, discs are also gone and should be changed otherwise it will lead to early wearing of brake pads. I have heard this many a times from car ASS as well but on inspecting with another one, no issues were found. Unfortunately, don’t have pics to show it right now but will post it tomorrow before I get it inspected from another ASS.
3. Fork greasing – As per SA, handle is not moving freely but I don’t feel anything like that. He says it might lead to further damage to the rings in between. (600 rupees)
4. Front shocker oil – He moved the shockers up & down and says there’s too much bounce effect and shocker oil should be replaced (600 rupees)
5. Swingarm greasing – This definitely seems like a force add on as bike has been service couple of weeks back. Shouldn’t this have been done as part of service? (600 rupees)

The friend from whom I have picked it up and got it serviced couple of weeks back. During that service, front brake pads, slider chain and some other minor components were also replaced at same time. He says that Noida ASS where he got the work done didn’t ask him for these items to be replaced. I am taking the bike there tomorrow to get it cross checked.

Can you also suggest some good local shop/mechanic outside of ASS (in Delhi) to get it inspected as well?

Yes pls post the pic; just FYI, I changed my rotor/disc plate on the front at around 81000 Km; the rear disc is still good at 108000 Km. No extra zeros!!

Difficult to gauge even with pics; lift the front wheel with the side stand & see if the handle bar can move freely on both sides without noise & its good to go; additionally, ride for about 10-20 Km on a traffic free highway & see if you develop any shoulder pain WITH PROPER RIDING posture, if no pain, its good; otherwise, observe keenly for any additional thud noises on rough roads.

Many folks complain that C250R has a soft front suspension, though I don't have any complains on that...I leave the rest for you to decide. FYI, my front suspension oil change interval is about 32000 Km on conservative side (means, whether required or not, I make a change)

Not necessary; ASCs charge even without doing the work esp the degreasing part which is hard to verify. But if you can ride another good C250R & yours up & down you'll be able to verify if this is required or not; again, no thud sound/experience from the rear suspension. FYI, I change my rear suspension every 65000 & don't bother about greasing!

Rahul

Pl talk to Ashok, the chief mechanic in Malwa Honda in Okhla Industrial Area. He's competent, unassuming and very experienced. IMO he will not pile on additional needless expenses that the bike doesn't need and will advise you correctly on all your concerns. The workshop is competent and usually has all spares in stock. He can be reached at +919899120424. The address of Malwa Honda is
W-10,
Okhla Phase II
New Delhi -20

Their workshop # is 9212634631

Hope this helps.

Cheers !

Thanks for your reply guys. Couldn't go to different ASS today due to work commitments but picked up the bike from V.D. Honda after getting rear disc pads, disc bleeding and rear left indicator replaced. Total cost came to be 2400 (disc pad -1300, bleeding - 600 and rest for indicator and labor).

As per servicing guy Anand there, discs are fine and I shouldn't be having any issue with it so not getting it changed.

Below is the pic of chain set as promised. Please advise.

According to what the manual, and my mech says (I had asked him a few days ago), once that nut moves all the way to the right, they can't adjust anymore, and they'll have to replace the chain. And it's recommended to replace the chain-sprocket set so that there's no uneven wear.

Aargee can possibly corroborate this.

Its time for the sprockets to be changed; however it cannot be prolonged for more than 500-600 odd Km provided you ride within 6000 RPM in any gears & practice gradual acceleration & avoid engine braking.

So finally I got the chain set changed along with all other work (Fork greasing, swing arm alignment and shocker oil change) as suggested by SA. Total bill came to be 4k approximately. Also, bought the Honda 2 yrs / 4 services AMC for 1500 bucks. It includes labor charges (750 approx) wave off during regular service + 5% discount on parts and 10% discount on any other labor.

Question - What happens when you're off the social media?
Answer - You get a light in your life

First (barring the stickers) ever modification from stock motorcycle after 5 years & 2 months. Owing to ageing or weak eyesight or prolonged rides mostly in dark, I could not take it anymore with the stock headlights when the Volvos are beaming twin HIDs & Halogens or a good old Swaraj Mazda having pair of 90/100s, my single puny Osram Night Breaker+ 60/55 could not match them. CPR could beat in terms of timing & acceleration, but not very bright enough, I hope CPR can now see better

Can you elaborate on the mod? I have seen people using twin 20W LED for auxiliary lights on Motorcycles.

Polished after several months; can't recall when I polished last time. Not a real attention to detail work, but glad the shine had been restored.
