My HH Bike's lock is Jammed

I occasionally take my 10 year old HH CBZ to office. Last week I had taken my bike to office. In the evening, when I wanted to get back home the key would not unlock. Tried all possible ways. The lock is totally jammed. Since it was late (10 PM) took a cab to reach home. Today I tried to unlock the bike again using my unused spare one. No luck! Request advice on how to go about it.
1. Do we get spare locks for CBZ now?
2. How simple is it to change locks?
3. Any advice on how to open the lock so that I can start the bike.

Re: My HH Bike's lock is Jammed

This is common in old bikes, especially during rains. Most likely, your handle lock needs a bit of greasing/oiling. I would suggest adding a few drops of engine/lubrication oil through the key hole and wait for a few minutes. It should get okay. Mechanics do this during scheduled service.

If that doesn't work, try using WD40. Spray it right into the key hole.

Good luck!

Cheers!

Re: My HH Bike's lock is Jammed

I regularly add several drops of engine oil through the key hole during my routine checkup/lubrication of my old TVS Victor. You could buy one of 'em sewing machine plastic oil bottles, fill it with engine oil, and then put the key through the keyhole just enough to press down on the spring loaded metal hinge covering the keyhole. Let the oil drip for a few seconds into the hole.

If that fails, try what DueLLer suggests with the WD-40.

Re: My HH Bike's lock is Jammed

I faced this issue once after a water wash.

I removed the dip stick. Let some oil, which was on the stick drip into the key hole.
A minute later the lock was working fine.

No need to change the lock. Though it is a very simple process and can be done by you at home itself.

Just like everyone one else has suggested here, put a few drops of engine oil. If you are concerned about spoiling your pockets when you keep the key, you can use a couple of drops of coconut oil. Before every monsoon season, I make sure the locks are lubricated and I have a spare waste cloth. (Comes in handy!)

Good luck!
