Re: My 1st Bull: Classic 500 Desert Storm

5 years 8 months, 51500 kms

I recently got new spark plugs and brake pads for the motorcycle. There were some starter motor issues that I had been facing for last three weeks, but now the motor has been replaced and the issue has been rectified.

I had planned a ride to Goa but sadly that got postponed. Moreover, the motorcycle was lying idle for almost a month hence the low running since my last update. The Enfield is returning 19-20 kpl now, marginally more than what I had been getting before the service.

Some pics of the motorcycle clicked in the last 4-5 months :

Front Tyre was replaced only once at 45000 kms (Ralco Speed Blasters).

Rear Tyre was replaced once at 18000 kms (Ceat Vertigo) and the second time at 45000 kms (Ralco Speed Blasters) along with the Front Tyre.

The Ralco Speed Blasters are pretty good. I never thought I would be able to corner on the Enfield the way I do now. The Speed Blasters have superb grip levels and provide huge confidence on ghat roads. Highly recommended !

You may want to look at the newer models with the rear disc brake, and also new announcements from the auto show in February 2018

I am eagerly waiting for the Auto Expo. I would have considered the Himalayan FI but the top-end performance of the motorcycle felt inadequate. Also I am willing to switch brands so not really considering any other Royal Enfield as of now.

My primary requirement is of a comfortable touring motorcycle with adequate ground clearance to tackle trails/ruts/streams apart from munching miles on the highway. I did consider the Kawasaki Versys 650 but somehow that didn't work out due to the Pune dealer's attitude. The overall experience at Kawasaki was saddening plus they never bothered to have a test ride bike till I was considering the Versys.

The Auto Expo might bring news about the Suzuki V-Strom 650. If Suzuki brings in the XT version with all bells and whistles, I will seriously consider it.

Else if they delay the V-Strom 650 launch, something else might replace the Enfield in my garage.

The ground clearance would be an issue. That is why I am only looking at the adventure tourer segment now.

I finally took the plunge !

Bought home a Triumph Tiger 800 XR (christened it Bagheera) last night from BU Bhandari Triumph Pune. The booking experience and delivery experience was really good.

Its too early to comment about the motorcycle now, but the first 50 kms with the Tiger was an experience to cherish.

I shall compile a report and share it soon.

Thank You Red Liner. I got the panniers and topcase as freebies along with aluminium radiator guard, tank pad and fork sliders from the dealer due to stock clearance.

The new Tiger is just around the corner and ideally I should have waited but I realized that the new Tiger in its base variant gets only marginal upgrades. I am not too fond of electronics so didn't really wanted to stretch for the higher variants either.

Plus I got a good discount on the dresser bar / crash guard, sump guard, centre stand so overall I was getting a sweet deal on the Tiger.

The 750/850GS were a part of the dilemma too, but finally the deal BU Bhandari Triumph Pune offered was a little hard to resist.

What was the final price you paid, and what did all the accessories cost you?

The OTR price in Pune for the base XR variant is 14L.

Additionally I paid 40K for the sump guard, center stand & crash bar. Plus 12K for the Barkbuster Storm hand-guard. I got the panniers, top box, radiator guard, fork sliders and tank pad as freebies.

Plus got 30% off on official Triumph riding gear so I picked up an all-weather touring jacket, an all-weather touring pant and an all-weather gloves for 35K after discounts.

The ownership report will take some time, I want to clock a few miles before putting an unbiased report so please bear with me.
