Re: My 1st Bull: Classic 500 Desert Storm

Hi //M, Congratulations on your new DS Bull. Am awaiting mine, hopefully will get it in the next month or so.
Can you point me towards the correct link for checking Royal Enfield VIN as well as the Royal Enfield PDI list. Been searching for sometime now but to no avail.

regards,

raj

The PDI list was provided in the Classic 500 thread:

The VIN can be identified as per the following method provided:

Congrats in advance for your upcoming DS500.

Re: My 1st Bull: Classic 500 Desert Storm

First Service Update:

The DS500 had its first free servicing done today with 560 kms on the odo.

Issues: The rear fender had got misaligned to the left. A pic has been posted which shows the problem. It has been rectified now.

Accessories: Left side stay to replace the saree guard.

The breakdown for costs are listed below:

Oil change: 622.00
Oil filter: 78.00
Left side stay: 786.00

Total: 1486.00

I feel the cost of the stay guard was a bit too much. Last I heard was that a stay costed just 240.00 but today I was a bit shocked to see the MRP on the box. Is it common for all colors or the Desert Storm stay is more expensive than other black/red/silver stay guards?

The DS500 is running perfectly and its always a pleasure to ride it in open roads.

Attaching some pics from the servicing:

the cost of LHS is way too high, even i remember to get a quote of just Rs.350. might be RE has recently realized to drill down the pockets of customers more deep. but it is really good that you got one, I am struggling to find LHS for my DS from last four months and the RE service center is saying to buy a black LHS and they will paint it in DS color

I was also not getting a Desert Storm LHS stay as I have mentioned in my quoted post. I was also given the option of getting a black one and then repainting it to DS but yesterday when I took my DS500 for the service, the manager informed me that a DS painted LHS stay was available. Although the price was a shocker, it definitely looks better than the saree guard.

Re: My 1st Bull: Classic 500 Desert Storm

Left Side stay is the single piece of rod running through connected to the rear foot-peg?

If yes, it looks really cool. What other color options RE has for this stay? Is there one in Chrome?

Yes its the rod connecting the rear foot peg area to the fender supported by another curved rod along the rear fender.

It does look good. However I am not sure if its available in Chrome. It would certainly be, but it may be difficult to procure as dealerships/service centers do not keep it in stock. You can easily get a black or red stay but the other shades are difficult to find. It can be ordered through your dealer though.

Re: My 1st Bull: Classic 500 Desert Storm

I did a 316 km round trip between Ranchi and Jamshedpur over the last weekend. The route taken was Ranchi-Tamar-Chandil-Kandra-Adityapur-Jamshedpur-Pardih-Chandil-Tamar-Ranchi. The entire stretch is good and some sections are really poor. But overall the condition of the highway has improved from what it used to be till sometime back.

The odo now stands at 1000 km and the fuel economy that I got over the trip is around 30 kpl. There are no niggles as such and its pure bliss to ride the DS500 over long open highways and ghat sections. The more I ride it, the more I am falling in love with it.

Also it was great to meet a friend there who has a 2011 Yamaha R1. Few pics from the trip:

I had visited the enfield showroom last weekend. The DS500 is totally amazing to behold. Man you are really lucky. Its one hell of a bike.
And i did not realise the roads are so good in bihar. Hope to drive down there when i visit my native.
And did you hit the gym to look macho enough to suit the bike? I mean even my mom says im not macho enough to ride an enfield. Rofl. Just kidding.
Really love your bike and the color man. Its so beautiful. Wish you many more happy and safe miles with this bull of a bike. Do post some more pics of this eyecandy.

Regards.

Thank You Sir.

I am 22 years old and have never hit the gym. But I do plan to join a good gym asap. I don't think one needs to look macho to ride an Enfield but yes it does look good if one has a body to match the appeal of an Enfield.

I will post more pics of my DS500 as I clock up more kms on the odo. And btw do give me a ping if you are in Ranchi sometime. I would love to meet the BHPians and the like-minded people.

Re: My 1st Bull: Classic 500 Desert Storm

I did a quick DIY removal of the rear seat and now the DS500 looks absolutely stunning. It has clocked up 1070 kms so far and the ride quality at 70-80 kph is awesome. Highway cruising ability, as expected, is terrific and overtaking is pure bliss.

Issues: The paintjob is highly inconsistent, specially around edges and between panels. Hope RE rectifies it in the near future.

Here are some pics of the Bull with its rear seat removed:

Re: My 1st Bull: Classic 500 Desert Storm

Following last night's heavy rain in Ranchi, the weather was perfect for motorcycling today. So I did a short ride across the jungles and small ghats around town. Also did a little bit of offroading too over a dried river bed. Overall a Sunday well spent.

Some pics that I took this morning:

Re: My 1st Bull: Classic 500 Desert Storm

Few pics that shows the inconsistent paint job around the edges and also a scratch in the rear fender that happened due to the rear seat removal while I was getting seat covers for the DS500. Sadly the paint job is a big concern even in the 2012 Enfield's.

Re: My 1st Bull: Classic 500 Desert Storm

2000 km update:

My DS500 has completed 2000 kms so far and riding it at over 100 kph is such an awesome feeling. I rode it at 120-130 kph last saturday in some open stretches around Ranchi. It has such a majestic ride and looks like a million bucks. The monsoons have not restricted my DS bull and I love taking it out everyday.

A pic that I took last weekend:

Re: My 1st Bull: Classic 500 Desert Storm

Paint quality is a bit concern for a machine of this pedigree. But I am sure the experience and cult feel this machine gives is beyond those paint drawbacks. Great set of pics to compliment the bull. Keep updating!
