Garware parts ways with Hyosung, DSK joins hands with Hyosung

Just saw an article on ACI which states that Garware has parted ways with Hoysung and sold it's share to real estate developer - DSK.

Excerpts" Garware Motors is in the advanced stages of selling its stake in Korean bike-maker Hyosung. Cash-rich real estate magnate, DSK (D S Kulkarni developers) has moved in to purchase Garware’s stake, and takes over to enter the Indian two-wheeler market as Hyosung’s new partner.

Although an official confirmation from Hyosung is still to come in, this latest partnership in the Indian two-wheeler market is confirmed.

Hyosung currently sells the ST7, GT650R, GT650N and GT250R models in India.

Smart move by Garware and Hyosung. For Garware this would have been a potential sink hole . Hyosung has also done well to find Kinetic , then Garware and now DSK. If DSK thinks they can do a toyota out of this then that will be very interesting to see.

Its high time Hyosung joins the 250cc bandwagon and bring in some real good bikes which are value for money. As of now the other competitors (read foreign players) are more concentrating on refinement which is certainly not all want. People want affordable bikes with better performance figures. DSK should influence Hyosung to bring out such models.

Some days back there was a news which mentioned DSk who are also one of the dealers of Toyota in western maharashtra have opened a show room for Hyosung heavy vehicles

That would be HINO heavy trucks - the truck business under Toyota. Infact DSK want to have a JV with Toyota for the HINO venture.

As a Hyosung owner, am amazed that the partnership ended so early, Garware had very ambitious plans but some how i guess this being their first venture into automobiles, they didnt have a proper set up to satisfy the owners on the service front and were facing difficulties.

Just hope the new owners revamp things, launch the GT250R at a good price and we can have some Toyota like service experiences

Hyosung 250R is already India bound. The pricing remains to be seen. I was expecting Garware to stay in the fray a little longer to see 250R / naked version of 250 in India.

When they launched the brand in India, they had huge plans... Did killer pricing of Ninja 650R set them back?

Hi!!

This news is confirmed in today's TOI Pune Edition. DSK will be bringing in more models and infuse substantial amount of cash in the partnership. According to the report they have taken over all the assets from Garware group.

BTW DSK group has sound business foundations IMO. They also own a couple of Toyota showrooms.

Motoroids had an article stating that DSK will be relocating or starting a new plant in Halol in Gujarat for Hyosung vehicles.Its good news that DSK will be infusing lot of money to bring up new motorbikes in Indian market. Hope they understand the market right and bring up VFM vehicles.

DSK Hyosung is planning to do the unthinkable. They are planning to enter the 125-150cc market with a mass market product. Hyosung in its earlier attempt to enter the segment with Kinetic engg had fallen badly on their face with the market dud KineticGF125 and 170. Hope this time with the new partner Hyosung would try to enter the already crowded segment with a product when most of the bike manufacturer are moving to the cost concious 100 cc segment.
