hi, I have wierd problem with my bajaj CT 100 for around 1 month,
Problem: Starting problem, (starts after 2-3 kick with choke, sometime on 2nd kick itself)
once started it goes into slow speed, (like short of fuel, even i give accelerator, the engine dies, but if i use choke, it will go live, with strain). and i have to move for another 2-3 kms with use of choke while overtaking and while speed below 20-30 kmph, if i slow the accelerator, the engine dies, and it is risky to cross road for first 5 kms.
to be short, the bike behaves like dry carburator without petrol , as it is last drop there. (for 2-3 kms), then the bike is normal. but the problem crops up once i come and start the bike again after finishing my work around, same routine continues.
I have changes spark plugs, changed float, needle, cleaned carburator, replaced air filter, still the problem is there. I dont know what the problem exactly. Am fed up with taking bike to mechanic:Frustrati
PS: the engine head gasket is leaking, i could see black oil strains around engine head opposite side of spark plug. and my bike silencer too corroded and has hole below. but i dont think that might be problem for this. ?
had same issue on honda dio - got the head and valve work done (after a splendid 7 year problem free run) - get it done at any good road side mech, KEY is a GOOD lathe job, mech just does a simple remove refit job.
Costed 2600Rs for Dio (including oil change and labor) expect similar number for your bike.
How many kms did your bike cloak? It appears that a major overhaul is due for your bike's engine. The engine gasket leak can take away the power otherwise the engine would have developed.
Have it checked up by a competent mechanic.
the engine have been overhauled about 3-4 months back, and crank, bearing have been worked on lathe and set. but i am going to set the gasket leak right tomorrow.

Do you warm up your bike at all ? It seems like no ! You dont !
Please warm your bike properly before you set off to work or from work. There is no issue with your bike, just that it needs a kick start by way of proper warm up.
One word - carburater. Replace the "carburater kit" -oem bajag. That will solve the problem. But replace the head gasket or there will be loss in power. Also check if ignition wire is leaking. I have heard stories that wire coating wethers off and current leaks making spark weaker. Good luck with finding the oe kit, if you ever.
Bajaj bikes does never need warming, only honda'ss do.
i dont know what is warm up. you mean, i have to accelerate for some time, after kick start? I dont do so, but i had no problems with my suzuki samurai , which i had for 7 years, not even an single engine rework, only sprocket changes, cable changes etc.
But i am fed up with bajaj, done engine work twice , i at present love my age old ind-suzuki and samurai, which had no problem at all.

Not at all. The 100cc block does not need warming, you have to pull choke and kick it maximum 2 times. Only bajaj dtsi engines have to be slightly warmed.
You cannot compare a 2 strok with a 4 strok. 2 strok has rich mixture to begin with.
Please explain how you managed to do engine work? Did you change oil on time?. I am asking because my friend has a very old bajaj 4s which is workin smoothly after 80 thousand kilometers. Only he changed oil and tight chains.

yes, 2 stroke is different, but i had suzuki's it was maintenace free , but this is first bajaj, and first 4 stroke. but it let me down. with much maintenace cost, and niggling problems.
actually, there was engine bearing noise,(crank bearing), so i resetted that with lathe with new bearing and they set it, and mechanic fixed it. with new rings i think. and oil and packing. only cylinder works, but i have to check wiring as said. since if i switch on indicator, all the four were blinking, and from today, only rear indicators are working. not front, whether the wiring may have messed up, i suppose, but not sure.
Does your bike idle well when started? I had similar problem with my gladiator, its engine would shut when releasing accelerator and sometimes starting trouble also. After lots of hits n trial at service center it was sorted out by timing adjustment and sparkplug change. Now it has been more than a year after this job and my bike is running fine.
yes, there is problem in idling as soon as i start, i have to keep accelerator running and use choke, else engine would die as if fuel shortage.
I had changed new 'champion' spark plug a week back. but still problem is there. :eek:
Before opening engine, look whether there is issue with spark timing or not, basically into CDI. Sometimes, the ignition might not be proper and hence you need more fuel initially when bike engine is not at operating temperature.
If thats not a problem, change the carb and ensure that proper amount of fuel effortless flows till the carb.
Still if you are facing problem, then engine block, head and piston have to be looked into.
Problem Solved:
Finally the problem have been solved, the culprit is air filter sponge, one minute sponge particle had been sucked into carburator, and it did not come out while hand washing with petrol, once it had been treated with pressurised air, then it got cleaned, Now it is ok to ride. No starting problems at all.
