The reason I'm saying this is because like you I too think the CBR looks much better than the Duke, and actually fell for the CBR based on online descriptions, specs and better touring potential. But one test ride on the CBR later and I found that I absolutely disliked it! It's a great bike but just not what I was looking for, didn't excite me at all, and had I booked and bought one without test riding, I would have been a very disappointed chap today.

There's only so much one can get from an online forum. The real decision when it comes to choosing between different bikes should be taken after a test ride on all the models you are considering. If the dealers don't offer a test ride, try and get one from a friend. But do test ride them and you'll immediately know which one is better for you.

Thank you for the word of caution, Honestly I have not been on a 390 to date. I have taken a test on a CBR and on the Duke 200 , My observations on the duke are that the position seemed too upright for my personal taste, did not like the exhaust note (but that can be changed i guess) and I felt that the rear end of the 200/390 was not to my preference. I had the pro 390 dilemma purely on the performance and more bang for the buck front.

My test on the CBR was a short ride of about 4 km in city traffic, maybe a 1km of relatively free road which seemed good when compared to a r15 which I found too sporty. I have not tested the Ninja 250/300 but since that's outside my budget decided to pass. Incidentally did all 3 test rides on the same day.

I guess I am pretty much left with a CBR considering that I do not want to own another RE having had one stock and custom built in the past.
