re: 2T - My Yamaha RX135. Update: Another RX joins

Hello guys

I am looking for a pair of good quality mirrors with chrome stalks for my RX135. If anyone can point to a source in Bangalore, it would be very helpful.

Although I have the OE ones on my bike now, the chrome stalks looks much better in my opinion.

I believe Fiem brand comes in chrome stalks. Have you tried stores in Kochi?

I know a person running a shop near South Over bridge in Kochi who sold Fiem mirrors. For aesthetic reason I changed the mirrors to chrome but they are easily prone to rust.

Edit - I mentioned places in Kochi as I know your bike was repaired there.

Thanks a lot Jose for the info.

5 or 6 years ago, a shop near Mathrubhumi junction had a few chrome stalk mirrors in stock (Autobird brand) which I had bought. The problem with them was, the mirror part of it was of really bad quality. I still have them, but when I tried fitting them on my RX after restoration, the threads wouldn't match. I didn't want to do cross-threading and damage the yoke, so left it there.

Anyway, if I am not able to find any source in Bangalore, I will try the shop you mentioned when I go next to Kochi. Chrome quality if not too bad (the peeling variety that is!) doesn't matter since I spend half an hour every morning to religiously polish the bike.

On a related note, I am not sure how many RX owners have noticed the hole in the chassis near the rear left shock absorber for fitting the helmet lock (OE accessory, and still supplied with the new lock-key set for RX100). Although it is not really useful in securing the helmet, I had bought some when they were available freely. Just realized that my bike is missing one currently. Should get it during my next trip to Kochi.

Hi isrsuresh

I am not able to send you a PM since you are still a Newbie and don't have PM privileges. Not sure how to convey my contact details to you.

By the way, if it is a specific question you want to ask, feel free to post it here.

re: 2T - My Yamaha RX135. Update: Another RX joins

Nice ride you have there. I too own a RX135, 4-speed. Mechanically it is in good condition but for a minor issue. Whenever i fill her up or leave in side stand, there is some leakage happening. It seems to be a mixture of petrol + oil. Not sure where it leaks from. The regular mechanic i give to for servicing tried few stuff but the problem is recurring. Did you notice any such issue with your bike? Any pointers for a fix would be greatly helpful...

Ram,
would it be a leak from the Carburetor? Would the carb sweat?

You can also check the fuel tap inlet and outlet. Do you regularly open/close fuel tap after parking?

@Viju - Excellent !!! I've not seen how the last production RX135 would look like, but I know now. Hats off to you. Somebody was mentioning about Autobird mirrors, is it available these days? Any information will help.

@Rock* - The reason you see a leak or a smudge is because:-
1. Weak gasket (packing)
2. Float needle assembly might have a step around the circumference.
3. Silly but important, overflow tube from the carb will need to be intact.

Not sure if the leak is from the carb, but the source seems to be exactly below the clutch, side stand and center card have oil stains on them.

Yes i shut the tap off while parking the bike during the nights, and open it while starting in the mornings.

Thanks Sri, will check it out. For now showed it to nearby mechanic, he told that the oil seal might need to be changed. Just wanted to give it a try, now in observation. This is the only niggling issue with the bike, other than this its fine. If this gets solved, i can convince my parents to have the bike with me for few more years . Will update you guys on how it goes.

Sure, but are you sure you will be able to do it in Kochi, where my mechanic is?

On a different note, even my RX leaves 2 drops of ??? when I park her overnight. I used to think it was the 2T oil from the oil tank since I had filled it to the brim and was parking on side-stand. But now the oil level has come down a bit and I am parking her on the centre stand, but still the issue persists. Need to check where exactly the leakage is from!

Viju: Your work is simply outstanding & splendid. The bike looks as it has just rolled out of the Yamaha Showroom..and people say that the production has stopped?

I have never ridden a Yamaha RX, & I am sure there will be many guys around like me, so can you throw some light on the performance part on this iconic bike. That will be great. Please also quote the fuel efficiency that the bike is churning out. (Indians!)

Regards.
