Re: TVS Motors and BMW Motorrad join hands in partnership for motorcycles below 500 c

Thats really good news !!

But i really how wonder how long TVS is going to stick with BMW.

TVS did have such good partnership with Suzuki earlier and produced some really good bikes like Samurai ( 2S ) ,Shaolin, and the best engine for TVS Fiero ( From F2 the engine was solely from TVS)

The 1st Fiero had a truly great engine which would never stress out and was rev friendly.

The current engines by TVS are OK but not that exceptional

However lets hope this BMW partnership takes TVS a long way and offer some very good models for indian market.

Caught this BMW (F600GS) testing today in Bangalore. The bike wore a TC number plate. See the picture below. Hoping that this may be one of the launches of the new TVS-BMW collaboration. Any views?

Seems to be the F800GS, I don't think there is any F600GS that BMW sells.

Was this a test bike?
Or the owner has just taken delivery and is returning home with his new ride?

The vehicle had a TC number plate. I thought TC numbers are only for outdoor testing vehicles . Isnt it?

New contours of the BMW-TVS deal emerge

Link to News Section

German motorcycle maker BMW Motorrad signed an alliance with Indian two wheeler giant TVS Motors earlier this year. Under this alliance, TVS and BMW Motorrad are to jointly develop motorcycles for markets in India and abroad, which would later be sold independently under BMW and TVS labels. Further clarity about this partnership is now emerging as BMW India's President, Mr Philipp Von Sahr has highlighted the contours that this alliance could assume, with the following statement to Reuters,

Quote:
We are looking forward to developing a motorbike, which is for TVS on the higher end, for BMW on the lower end. Maybe also in the long term...we also want to export such bikes.

Mr Von Sahr's statements do throw hints that TVS Motors could be a contract manufacturer of small capacity, sub-500cc motorcycle for BMW Motorrad. Such an arrangement is already in place with KTM and Bajaj, where the latter builds motorcycles for export for the former. India's eminence as a manufacturing power capable of turning out high quality automobiles at a competitive price tag has grown over the years.

Car makers such as Maruti Suzuki, Nissan and Ford, to name a few, are heavily into exports and in the two wheeler space, the KTM-Bajaj alliance, Royal Enfield, TVS Motors and Hero MotoCorp are the other major exporters. With Harley Davidson indicating that it wants to leverage India's manufacturing strengths for the new, 500 cc motorcycle that will be built here, but sold across the world, BMW engaging TVS Motors in a similar activity seems very likely.

The sub-500 cc motorcycles developed by the BMW-TVS alliance is expected to be used by TVS Motors as a flagship bike while BMW could use these motorcycles to target a new demography of younger buyers in developed markets. The demand for small capacity motorcycles such as the KTM Duke 390 and the Honda CBR400R, that offer good performance along with good fuel efficiency is on the rise in the developed world. The BMW-TVS alliance seems to be aiming at this very opportunity.

TC number plate means temporary registration. Am not quite sure if they can use TC Number plates for testing as well.
But from your photo all that i can understand is the rider seems to be riding away home on his bike

More details about the BMW Motorrad-TVS Motors alliance emerge

Link to News Section

German motorcycle maker BMW Motorrad and Indian auto giant TVS Motors, known for its 2 & 3 wheelers, are in a tie up to build small capacity motorcycles in the sub-500 cc segment. BMW Motorrad and TVS Motors will brand and market the new crop of sub-500 cc motorcycles under their respective brands.

TVS Motors and BMW Motorrad join hands in partnership for motorcycles below 500 cc-bmw-f650-gs.jpg

Note: The BMW F650 GS image used in this report is illustrative in nature.

TVS Motors' expertise in low cost-high quality manufacturing and sourcing will be leveraged by BMW Motorrad. In that light, these motorcycles will be built in India, at one of TVS Motors' factories. Now, new details have emerged on VisorDown, about the BMW Motorrad-TVS Motors partnership.
  • BMW and TVS will roll out their sub-500cc range of motorcycles within the next three years (before 2016).
  • For the second time since the announcement of the BMW-TVS partnership, hints of a 250 cc motorcycle have been dropped.
  • The 250 cc motorcycle is likely to feature either a naked or an adventure (touring) design theme.
  • A sub-250 cc motorcycle could also be under consideration.

More details of the BMW-TVS partnership could be announced at the upcoming EICMA 2013 motorcycle show that will be held in early November at Milan, Italy. Earlier this year, Austrian motorcycle maker KTM, in which Bajaj Auto holds a near 48 % stake, overtook BMW Motorrad as Europe's largest motorcycle maker.

The small-capacity Duke range, comprising of the Duke 125, 200 and 390 models, has been instrumental in KTM moving past BMW Motorrad in the European motorcycle market. The small-capacity Duke range (first introduced in 2011) has nearly doubled KTM's yearly volumes, and the upcoming RC range of full-faired small capacity sportsbikes only promises to further boost volumes.

It is with background in place that BMW Motorrad tied hands with TVS Motors, the fourth largest two wheeler maker in India, to take on the combined might of KTM and Bajaj Auto. With the new sub-500 cc motorcycle range, BMW Motorrad is likely to directly challenge KTM in India and other international markets including its home market of Europe.

These developments have other angles to them. In the near term, TVS Motors might not expand the Apache range of high performance motorcycles, instead preferring to wait for the new crop of sporty offerings that the company will launch in collaboration with BMW Motorrad, in an approach similar to what Bajaj Auto has taken with the Pulsar 200 NS.

Also, TVS Motors is likely to focus on the commuter motorcycle and the automatic scooter segments until the arrival of the sporty motorcycles under the BMW-TVS tie up. TVS Motors' newly developed automatic transmission, which the company showcased at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo, could be the major technological innovation that is likely to keep the company's commuter range fresh for the next couple of years.

According to ACI, the first bike would be a single cylinder 300 cc 4 stroke bike. It will be a street bike, similar to Duke. It will be branded TVS. Possible release around 2016.

Re: TVS Motors and BMW Motorrad join hands in partnership for motorcycles below 500 c

TVS BMW to produce 350 and 500cc Motorcycles.

Quote:
Seems like TVS BMW partnership is finally giving material shape to the products meant to be created from the alliance. The Indian and German motorcycle makers are reported to have finalized the product plan for the alliance. The initial products from the partnership will include two products, a smaller 350cc motorcycle representing the lower end of the spectrum, and a bigger 500cc machine representing the premium end of the range. Of these, the smaller 350cc motorcycle is expected to be launched in the second half of 2015 with the bigger machine slated to follow later.

The new products will compete with brands like Harley-Davidson, Triumph, KTM and to an extent with the upper end motorcycles from the Indian motorcycle maker Royal Enfield. It’s notable that rivals Hero Motocorp and Bajaj Auto also have plans to unleash their own products in the premium segments with motorcycles powered by 600cc and 390cc engines respectively. While the Hero Motocorp’s motorcycle is expected to be priced on the higher side, the Bajaj offerings (CS400 and SS400) are expected to be priced very competitively. It would be interesting to see how well the new TVS-BMW motorcycles measure up against the KTM Bajaj motorcycles in terms of power output, performance, features and most importantly, price.

The segment which TVS-BMW are targeting, is essentially the market segment between Rs 2.0 to 5 lakh rupees, where Harley Davidson has also positioned its recently launched Street 750 motorcycle. This is a fast growing market for India with year on year growth of over 35% and increasing.

Spy shots of the first bike from BMW-TVS JV is now captured in Germany.
The bike will be in competition to KTM Duke's 390 and is speculated to be released in 2015, codenamed 'K03'
This will be the first of the < 500 cc that the JV is targetting.

The spy shots show a water-cooled four-stroke single-cylinder machine being tested in Germany last week.

It's thought to be around 300cc and will be the first model from the German firm
The test mule has a single headlight unit, upside-down forks, alloy wheels shod with premium Michelin tyres, a single-disc front brake and a side-slung exhaust.

According to the photographer who took the spy shots, it also has a back-to-front cylinder with the exhaust exiting from the rear, a design used by Yamaha on its YZ450F.

Re: TVS Motors and BMW Motorrad join hands in partnership for motorcycles below 500 cc

Seems really small for a BMW! Looks more like a future TVS bike than a future BMW bike IMO. I expected that the partnership with TVS will give us a model like BMW G300GS with a TVS engineered engine and a BMW engineered on/off road chassis.

This seems like a upgraded version of Apache with some design copy from KTM, Bajaj! Seriously partnering with BMW I expected a lot more. Very disappointed with the spy shots!

Hopefully a better looking bike will roll out for production!
