Why was Yamaha RX 100 production stopped abruptly?

Guys!
I had this question in my mind for years!
Yamaha RX 100 was the Hottest Bike in early Nineties, it was my dream to own one after I get a Job!
But by the time I was into a Job in 1997, production of RX 100 was stopped and was no longer available .
Still not able to understand why did Escorts Yamaha stop manufacturing this superb bike all of sudden?
On the other hand, TVS Suzuki was all out with 2-stroke bikes like - Samurai, Shogun, Shaolin, Max 100 etc.

Cause the RX100 could not meet the pollution norms; even shogun was reintroduced with a catcon. Production of most of the 2st motorcycles in India has stopped and with the emission norms getting tougher there is no way another 2st bike would be launched in India.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but was'nt the RX 100 also stopped for the strange but true reason that it was the bike at its time with the fastest pickup, so robbers and chainsnatchers used to use it for their quick get aways. From what someone told me, it seems even the police couldn't catch up with them when they got away on these bikes? Or may be it was the RX 135 people were referring to?

Godspeed.

Ahhh... but i'm not talking about the present times now, am I? Hell, this is what I've heard from people, so I could always be wrong. You know how these whisper-hear-tell stuff are! And if I seem to recollect right, the bike was LOUD, so do you think that was another reason they might have wanted it off the streets?

Godspeed.

Yeah, may be because of the pollution norms or for the simple reason that yamaha india wanted to boost sales of the RX135, RXG, RXZ,YBX.

Possible. I may not be completely rite

Yamaha was forced to stop producing the RX100 since it could not meet the pollution norms. They managed to meet the emission norms, but did a terrible job with the performance on the resultant RXG, which damaged the RX brand-image irrepairably.

The bike is good, its light and has enough power for ones delight, much like the RD350. If you didn't have a RD350, you'd be happy with this. And it is true, that the RX100 was used for a lot of stealing and murder events so that they can evade the police easily. But its not because of this reason that they stopped it.

This is nonsense. Was stopped beacuse of emission norms. The 4stroke bandwagon rallied with the govt to make emission norms tougher. No one saw our own BEST (Mumbai) and MTC(Chennai) Buses that were polluting by throwing up tons of smoke..........

YBX wasnt out by then. Yamaha still continued exporting high quality RX100s to the south asian nations.

Escorts stopped RX100's production because of pollution norms which it could not comply to.

As far as the rumours are concerned, I wouldn't blame you for believing them Alok. People come out with such interesting rumours....One more interesting rumour about the Rx100 was that when it was launched back in the mid 80's all major hospitals in Bangalore used to have dedicated emergency wards for people who met with an accident on a Yamaha. They used to be called the "Yamaha Ward" .

I got my RX100 in 1994 (flicked exactly a year later in 1995), and remember how Yamaha lost the plot after they stopped production. The RX135, somehow, just didnt catch on with the masses like the RX100. Even though it was as fast (faster?), looked and sounded the same.

Weird

I guess RX135 is faster(I own one), but never sounded the same. The inner flute(as people call it) of the silencer has changes that gave a different sound with which many were not impressed(including me as I have owned a 90 RX100)
