re: The KTM Duke 390 Ownership Experience Thread

News on delivery for Bangalore.

Just spoke to the KTM Manager at Langford. According to him, the first lot is expected by the first week of September. He says that he doesn't have a written confirmation of this from Bajaj though. He also stressed that the 90 days lead time would be adhered to. BTW Bangalore has got around 500 odd bookings of the bike. Boy are we going to see a lot of orange wheels around here

re: The KTM Duke 390 Ownership Experience Thread

The BTM showroom looks to have promised delivery tomorrow for the first 3 bookings and is in the process of getting the full amount from the customers.
My li'l birdie says it's just a ploy to get the complete amount and the delivery will take one week minimum.

Btw, why haven't the TD bikes been registered yet? They claim the RTO procedures are not completed yet!

Usually only about 30-40% of bookings actually finally make it to the finish line. More often than not, people just book it because they want to be among the first few in line to buy it but later change their mind and cancel.

Apparently the first batch of vehicles (for Popular Motors, KTM in Mekhri Circle) is arriving tomorrow.

They apparently have a very strict PDI to make sure that the first set of deliveries are impeccable (Thats why I was told)

The delivery is planned for the first few owners on Sep 5! (one week away)

PS:- They have an RTO registered test-ride vehicle.

Dealers are projecting a picture which is mostly their interpretation of what they hear. For some the 90day timeline is getting closer and I expect some promises being met. What I also hear is there are 10% cancellation which means you are getting bumped up in delivery order. For now taking those test drives are the fun I am having

I have decided bang in the middle of October rains will chennai get its delivery.

A rough calculation of what the buyers are cheated off is the interest one would have gained in that 30k. It may look paltry but that's in an indirect way a cheating to me by KTM. Personal interpretation so not open for judgement

Very fair assessment. Let's say they got 100 bookings. Each paid 30k.

That's 30,000 * 100 = 30,00,000 (30 lakhs).

let's assume it's taken 2 months to delivery from the time of launch. 10% pa for the sake of calculation.

((30,00,000 * 10/100)/12)*2 = 50k interest money.

Just saying

Fair analysis. Add to that on cancellation 4k INR will be deducted. But then not everyone paid 30k. I think later on deliveries dealers were not adament on 30k. When I went for booking in first week of August they said 30k booking but 5k and rest later on is also ok. At actual time of booking I was ready to pay 30k but the sales advisor only asked for 5k. So paid only that much. Its been 23 days since booking. Still waiting. Atleast Bajaj gave some assurance through contract signing. RE and its dealers don't give much hope. Booked the TB 500 in mid April. Followed couple of times. The reply was "we have said 4-6 months. Let that period complete". Looks like RE's loss is going to be KTM's gain. If RE would have delivered before first week of August I would have not even looked at KTM 390.

Hi,

My brother had booked from Langford road KTM (Bangalore), he got a call on Saturday that the bikes would arrive in 3 - 4 days and asked him to be ready with the finances.

Congrats on booking the 390 howler. I agree with you and agree with Tommie, who you disagree with(?).

I love my RD. "Will keep her for the rest of my life blah blah" kind of love. Have owned the RD for 7 years now and counting. I love wrenching on her, tuning her up, fixing the niggles and when she is set up, I love the rush of riding a well tuned RD350. And then the cycle repeats. Infinitely.

I love my duke 200 too. Have owned her since March 2012. Fantastic little motorcycle.
Here is an official review coming from Motorbeam eventhough the reviewer never owned an RD350 in his life which shows some sentiments.

Lets call RD350 for RIP atleast now.

I dont think the RD can be compared here. Accepted that 390 is great but RD was/is/will always be the engineering little marvel to me.

Every bit of that assembly shows engineering design to a great extend to be enjoyed.

Its retired from comparison and it almost took a long time before a nemisis as they call it the 390 is created.

RD or Java are my two admired piece of motor cycles every produced. Beautiful and gives you enough ammo to get your elbow dirty.

+1 to that, not sure why people would want to compare a Dino to a new breed. Honestly there just cannot be any sort of comparison in terms of performance between the 2 bikes. Probably I would like to compare the rideability and practicality between the 2 bikes than its performance.

Suppose much earlier in this thread I did make it very clear that 2 Strokers died long long ago. And it did take 43 years for a 4 Stroker to come along to whack a RD 350 CC

They are being compared because they fulfill the same need - an affordable bike that can blow anything else on the road out of the water. Not just other bikes, anything else.

re: The KTM Duke 390 Ownership Experience Thread

This Months ACI has the Performance figures

0-100 in 5.7 seconds
0-130 in 10.XX seconds
0-140 in 12.xx Seconds

Comparing to a 4 wheeler,an Audi Q7 4.2 TDI V8 accelerates to 140 in 12 seconds,so we have a firecracker,that can almost outrun a Q7 4.2 till 140 at the price of its alloy wheel probably

PS:-Q7 is just an example
