What engine oil does everyone use? Over the years I have found 300v 15w50 to be the best with 3000km oil change intervals. Tried the new 300v2 10w50 and stock 7100 10w50 but I prefer the old 300v in 15w50 spec anyone else prefer 15w50 over the recommended 10w50 oil grade?

Amsoil 10w40 worked a treat for me and have done 5000 kms so far.

300v is a track specific oil and not meant for street use.

I will.probably do liquimoly 10w60 next.

Look up the timsun 659A. Many of us including myself have used it and its very good as a 90/10 onroad offroad tyre for the Versys.

Thanks, but I tried it on a close friend's Versys. 2 issues -
1. The curvature is different leading to difference in handling particularly when leaning a bit
2. The wet grip sucks!

What's your take?

I had no such issues. It's the least dual purpose styled tyre from Timsun. I guess everybody's mileage varies.

Thanks... I'll keep that in mind. in the meanwhile let's see if there is a long term opinion on the TS 822's.

Given my use case i.e. (90-10 / 80-20) usage, not a fast rider (150-160 tops), need for good wet grip and 15000ish clicks of life, budget no bar - any suggestions?

I'm curious now, has the motor you've predominantly used 300V on clocked high mileage? Asking cause some of the motors I know that predominantly used 300V have gone in for a premature rebuild.

Most common area to show accelerated wear and tear was the camshaft.

The issue actually lies with owners fully trusting the service manual when it comes to oil change intervals. It really depends on riding style. With 300v you can notice change in viscosity much earlier than regular oil so oil change intervals of 3000kms is what I recommend. So far I've logged 20k kms on 300v. Total Kms logged are at the 35k mark.

The best wet grip is provided by a sport touring tyre and never a dual purpose tyre. On a DS tyre, grip on the road is always the compromise for grip off the road. For this style, the metzeler roadtec, and Pirelli angel GT come out on top.

For the best street wet grip dual purpose, you have the metzeler tourance, and the Pirelli scorpion trail.

Disclaimer: i have not used any of the said tyres. Internet experience only lol.

The motorcycle is merely out of warranty mileage i.e 30k.

I've tried almost all of the four stroke oil offerings of Motul on my motorcycles and the Duke and I can say for sure 7100 is the best oil offering the best of both FS. 300V is overkill IMHO but if you're satisfied with what it has to offer, then don't worry about the rest, it's all about oil change interval and the usage pattern that matters.

Secondly, 10w50 or 15w50 doesn't matter much. I've been using 10w50 on the Duke and on the CBR 10w40, pretty much happy with their performance. From my previous experience from 15w50 I feel no big difference, especially here in Ooty.

Update. Received a call from the SVC today. The technician informed me that the ABS pump is faulty. They changed the speed sensors but that did not seem to help. They did air out the break lines and replace the oil. Error code on diagnostic tool was 1505 pump issue or something like that. I will be picking up the bike tomorrow without replacing the abs pump. They said that the pump and Ecu come us a single unit and would cost 35k to replace. Will get the bike home first and look for alternate options. Not having abs is not an option.

The ABS pump of the Dominar costs 12.6k. I doubt the one on the Duke would be twice the price considering parts are shared between motorcycles.

Buy the part and change it yourself, a guy called Jeet Bhaskar has assembly/disassembly videos on YouTube.

Did not bother with alternatives. Tried living without ABS for a couple of weeks wasn’t fun. The quote you got from the svc seems about right. We seem to be the lucky few with this specific issue around the world! Either ways, I would urge you to get the new pump. It’s worth every penny. Made up for the cost with the number of times it’s saved my skin. I haven’t had any further ABS related issues since then. For a 2013 bike, still plasters a smile every mile Hope this helps.
