Today, Bajaj Auto Ltd. launched the
KTM Duke 390 in India at a price of
Rs. 1,80,000 Ex-Showroom Delhi.
High Points:- Bookings start across the 71 dealerships from tomorrow.
- At 43 BHP (@9000 RPM) & 35 Nm (@7000) of torque, the Duke 390 is a complete hooligan bike at this price point.
- ABS is standard (by Bosch). ABS kill switch hidden on the digital instrument cluster.
- Power to weight ratio of 279.2 BHP / tonne. (kerb weight = 154 kgs)
- 373.2 cc liquid cooled engine with almost 95% new components (which should clear the doubt about the engine being similar to the Duke 200). New components include a nikasil coated cylinder, four valves actuated by DLC ('diamond like carbon') coated finger followers.
- 300 mm front disc brake, 230 mm rear disc brake (by Bybre).
- KTM claims that the design & styling on the 390 is inspired by the Duke 690, but apart from the decal design, the rest looks very similar to the Duke 200.
- KTM started manufacturing bikes in 1953, & the Duke 200 was launched in India in January 2012.
- Bajaj Auto Ltd. has ~48% stake in KTM.
- The 1290 Superduke-R will be coming to India in 2013.
- KTM will continue to keep the action live with their Orange Day events across India.
Mr. Rajiv Bajaj posing with the latest
naked KTM.
Front looks identical to the Duke 200. Windscreen and knuckle guard are optional accessories.
White shade with orange alloys at the launch. Colours to be available were not mentioned, or perhaps this is the only colour scheme available.
The trellis frame in orange, distinguishing it from the Duke 200.
A look at the optional windscreen.
Rear is again a photo copy of the Duke 200.
Closer look at the '390' decal.
Fibre tank with a fuel capacity of 10.2 liters
ABS kill switch is below the 'set' button, but it's unmarked.
Note the WP branding on the inverted front suspension. Bybre brake calipers, biggest goodie on this bike being the ABS as standard.
The required 'saree guard' was not shown on the display bike.
Metzeler tyres, font and back.
Familiar exhaust pipe.
Engine cover screams - KTM Racing.
RHS view of the 373 cc block.
LHS view of the 373 cc block. Notice the exhaust pipe curving its way around the engine.
Tyre pressure & chain adjustment info.
Chain adjustment bolt.
Radiator has a plastic shroud ahead of it.
The pipes going in/out of the radiator.
A Domestic tag on the engine, below the tank.
Exhaust chamber (muffler) in black before it goes out of the pipe below. Rear mono-shock in white (WP suspension once again).
Cables have a heat wrap for the parts that pass nearer to engine.
Anyone know what 1.8 lacs ex-showroom translates to on-road in Mumbai? I just booked a bike through Shreeram Bajaj at Ghatkopar.
KTM-Bajaj launches Duke 390 @ 1.8 Lakhs :Shockked:. Awesome Pricing IMO.
Wa wa awesome pricing , this is what is called killing the competition :) .

OTR should be between 2.1 to 2.15L. Wonderful pricing by Bajaj.
Wooow!! They've priced it very well - so well that I was thinking about raising funds within a few seconds of seeing the bike's prices even though I didn't have any plan to go for a bike now. At 44 Bhp, this one is going to sell quite a lot. Hope it'll give 25-30 kpl mileage
What is the word on the Indiranagar dealership? Is there something like a motorcycle PDI to be done for a bike like the 390?
Brilliant pricing! that too with ABS!
Competition! wake up! or start piling up unused bikes :D
I'd expected aggressive pricing but this might just kill the competition!
Superb pricing and most reviews indicate this is a high performance engine. Hope we see a tbhp review like was done with Ninja 650
Well then the pricing of the most anticipated bike for the year 2013 is out ! And I must congratulate Bajaj and KTM for coming up with the wonderful pricing for the kind of specs this bike brings to the table !
I feel the pricing is just killer !
What say guys? Can this be a game changer for the other bikes in this segment and a segment slightly lower?
Will it affect the over the top pricing of RD's available in the resale market?
For once a product celebrated across the globe has been made available to Indians at a good price !

I know few R15 ,RX and RD guys who already sold their bikes fearing 390 release :uncontrol . Need to decide after getting a test ride , heard they are exchanging 200 for 390 :D .

Hahahahahah ! Talk about making all the right moves !! I am sure that there will only be a Handful of RD's in India that might Smoke this KTM.
We have an owner in our Forum whose RD might be able to do this: Vivek Jayasheel ! ;)
Talking about the right moves, Exchanging a 200 for 390 ! Whoa, that is some strategy ! Till date I have not come across a guy who has been disappointed by his KTM 200 ! I am sure if this is really true, it will really attract many upgrades ! Wake Up Honda's and Kawasaki's

2.2 OTR is just brilliant.
Definitely worth a dekko. (At 2.6 that the dealer quoted last week, I simply could not bring myself to plonk the money!) 40 k over the TBTS & 40 years more advanced tech - whats not to like!
Excellent pricing, hope the bike will live up to the expectations. Especially as it is heavily localized.
Happy to see the segment getting better, ultimately the consumer gets benefited from the competition.
