Earlier this year, Bajaj Auto announced plans of launching a slew of Discover variants. The first such variant is the Discover 125T model. The new variant expands the Discover range of executive commuter motorcycles to 5 models: Discover 100, 100T, 125, 125T and 125 ST. The Discover 125T sits below the top end 125 ST model in terms of price and positioning.
The Discover 125T, while featuring the same 125cc-four stroke engine found on the 125 ST model, makes do with a slightly lower power figure (12.5 PS to the 125 ST's 13 PS) while torque output remains the same on both models at 10.8 Nm. The engine on the 125T model features twin spark DTS-i technology and a four valve-SOHC layout.
The motorcycle comes with a top speed rated at 105 Kph while fuel efficiency is rated at 77.07 Kmpl (CMVR certified). A five speed manual gearbox is standard. The Discover 125T's styling is similar to the 125 ST model, with the major change on this motorcycle involving its suspension.
While the Discover 125 ST comes with gas charged monoshock suspension, the Discover 125 T comes with a twin gas shock absorber set up. By launching the Discover 125T in a base trim with 130mm drum brakes on both wheels, Bajaj Auto has made an additional price point available to the prospective commuter motorcycle buyer.
Other prominent features on the Discover 125T are the DC headlamp, box-type swing arm and low maintenance battery. The drum brake-alloy wheels-self start equipped Discover 125T is priced at Rs. 52,500 and the front petal disc-self start-alloy wheels equipped model is priced at Rs. 55,500, both prices reflecting ex-showroom Delhi figures.
It may be noted that the Discover 125 ST, which comes with a petal disc brake, alloy wheels and a self start as standard is priced at Rs. 56,026 ex-showroom Delhi, which is just 500 rupees more than the top end 125T variant. Close pricing such as this indicates that Bajaj Auto's main aim is to push the base version of the 125T to prospective buyers, thereby creating a lower price point for a motorcycle that comes with a similar engine and styling.
Notably, the Discover 150 seems to have been discontinued from Bajaj Auto's line up as the motorcycle has been taken off Bajaj Auto's website. A revamped version could be on the cards considering the fact that Bajaj Auto plans to launch 4 to 6 new variants of the Discover before the end of this year.
