Bro,
Agree to your design cue, but then what sort of an adventure bike have 10 liter as its tank with no optional accessory to upgrade it? To find some adventure place you will have to venture a good 70-90 kms on remote parts and then search for a petrol bunk?

Sorry if am being hard but I think KTM must come out with some alternatives. Atleast as an optional accessory. Else we ought to wait for a privateer to come up with one.

PS: Tiger will be there in 30 days time

The trellis rear frame is a mst have for the Adventure - so that's already in place now.

You need longer/beefier forks. Those can be added easily. Don't even think the rake needs modding.

You need a beefier longer travel rear monshock. That can be added easily as well. With linkage would be the icing on the cake!

The last two items are spoked wheels (with tubeless dual purpose tyres) and a bigger tank.

A more upright windscreen, a single beter upholstered saddle, different gearing/tuning, and a 18-20 liter tank. Of which the tank is a must.

And the best part - Bajaj-KTM can churn at least 6 of these out for the cost of each Tiger.

Wow appears you have the blueprint already listed out. Looks like you have spent quality time in listing out the mods. Would agree with you on all the items.

Bajaj-KTM does churn out 6 bikes at the cost price of one Tiger, but therein we all ought to agree that there are loads of differences.

Will be an honest attempt thought nevertheless.

Re: 2014 KTM RC390 leaked

What could be the expected premium over the naked 390. Generally the differnce between naked and faired versions is around $500 in most countries for bikes in this category.

In India with a slight premium, 40k would translate to 250k OTR in most places. Does the CBR250 stand a chance.

And what about the Ninja 300 from the Bajaj stable. The Duke will still be lighter than the Ninja. Ninja could sell only on looks if one prefers the same and intends to spend around 1.30L more for a bike that will still lack ABS.

If I was in charge with a team of engineers under me, the the hand of KTM over me, and the weight and financial/resource muscle of Bajaj behind me, this bike would have been a reality already.

Sadly, I am just a doctor, and will thus only dream. And if the dreaming takes too long, probably get a 390 and do it myself in my own small limited after-market way somewhere in the future. Either way, it would be a better, much cheaper, tougher, and more practical alternative to the Ninja 650 for our kind of riding and roads and adventure destinations.

The Ninja 300 in all probability would still be faster than the RC390 at the top end, though I am hoping KTM pull a rabbit out of the hat on that one. I have made no bones about the fact (as have many others) that both the 200 as well as the 390 disappoint at the top end when compared against the the numbers on paper.

The Ninja is still better in terms of refinement and heat dissipation.
But is a true 10-12 kmph higer top speed more justifiable than
- Better tyres
- Better brakes
- ABS
- Better acceleration from start and in the city
- Priced a near 1.4 lakhs lesser.

No ways can the Ninja truimph over the RC390 in terms of sales. Hope the pricing of RC390 is not more than 50k OTR over the naked KTM.

Agree with you on most everything save the better brakes part (ABS I agree to). The bite of the Ninja 250's brakes (never ridden the 300, but heard they are even better) is better IMHO than those on the Duke 390.

Disclaimer: This is the test 390 I am talking about. Cannot comment on the production version, but have heard there have been key improvements there.

Motorbeam seems to report KTM's brakes as "far better" than the Ninja 300. ABS could be an influence though.

. Niranjan owns the 390 and the Kawa 250 and he did mention that the 250R has better brakes in terms of feedback and bite compared to the 390.

On the 390 though, ABS is a blessing and this is sorely missed on the 250R during hard braking.

The Duke 200's front brake had better bite and feedback than that on the Duke 390. Again, this is the test bike I am talking about. No idea about the production versions, which reportedly have improved front anchors.

Doc, my D200 had nice feedback and bite early on but lost much of it after the second service. I rate the D390 higher than D200 in terms of stopping power and peace of mind due to ABS. Still not enough feedback though.
The Ninja has far far better feedback and a lovely, controlled bite.

The RC 390 does have a pillion seat. KTM's website says - "In order to make no compromises in terms of supersport look the KTM engineers integrated the pillion seat into the bodywork lines so that it looks like a real racing bike tail, but ensuring excellent comfort for the passenger."
