Entschuldigen Sie! I guess it is as such because-

It could be shaft driven, unlike the regular belt & Chain driven ones we see. OR perhaps, the design is just peculiar.

Italians go any extent for the perfect shape, you know! The Fiat 500 had a radiator behind the engine (Imagine! Mechs hated it.), just for achieving the perfect, curved bonnet shape!
