Get a 'decently' abused one and restore it. Involves a little pain these days in getting genuine spares, but worth it.

Re: 1998 Yamaha RX135 Restoration completed : Now, 5 speed converted!

Thank you Mr.Boss. Over this weekend I finalized a Rx135 and bought it. Attached are the pics. I took it to my mechanic and after test ride he said the engine is smooth and clutch is perfect.

I am having few issues which my mechanic says is perfectly fine.
1. The idling is zero. The engine gets off always. My mechanic says all RX are kept in zero idling to get the apt beat while running.
2. Clutch is too small, what I mean is it is not full clutch. For which he said you need to get used to it.
3. FC is expiring on July 27. Can I transfer and get FC extended at the same time. I am planning to go through my mechanic who has got contacts with rto.
4 I stay in Bangalore's KRPuram area where there was highest number of vehicle thefts as per some news article. What additional anti theft care can I take? I searched for wheel locks which is available in Amazon. Any other innovative ideas I can use?

Congrats, @CarBot. How much did you pay for it ? I have been looking for a KB100, but after a couple of misses and the rarity I am now inclined to look at the RX's too.

Yes, you can get FC and transfer at same time. I think you will need the FC forms signed by previous owner since fitness is logically mandatory before transfer can be done. Do check it out.

. Hilarious but true, sometimes we just go by what our "expert" says. I will take a second opinion

That's a decent price, if the mechanicals are in order & no major works are pending.

Take support from our fellow members and RX groups (Genuine members) in FB, either to get your bike checked or for reliable mechanics.

Sure, Thanks @Mr.Boss I will check. I feel this is a good post to ask the question. Fellow RX enthusiasts please let me know where to get my RX serviced / checked in Bangalore.

Re: 1998 Yamaha RX135 Restoration completed : Now, 5 speed converted!

Should be checking out a couple of bikes soon, both coming via known folks. One is a RX135 and has valid papers & good condition (minimal work if any). If anyone interested, do let me know. Happy to pass on the details if I dont pick it up.

Re: 1998 Yamaha RX135 Restoration completed : Now, 5 speed converted!

Guys recently picked up a rx 135 1997 model in Bangalore. I want to repaint and bring the bike to its original pristine glory. The bike is in decent condition now although, need guidance on this from the guys in Bangalore. As I cant trust any roadside mechanics. Please help.

One thing i have learned more than anything when it comes to old two stroke motorcycles is, rather than trusting a mechanic, Be a Mechanic!
Learn to work on the machine and the out come usually is amazing.
there are plenty of guides on youtube, follow channel by Pramod which is pretty comprehensive when it comes to Yamaha 2 strokes.

parts are available all you need is some time to invest and restore the machine to your satisfaction, also these machines are very simple to work on and even a layman like me could master some of the repairs and restores with ease.

One of the two numbers work. He is located on dinnur main road near RT Nagar. I think the name is Dream Bikes.
Got my 2005 RX 135 restored in December. It’s like new now. No other mechanic has ever touched my bike (after the showroom free services).
He is very reasonable in his service charges. But for restoration it was a bit expensive @ around 80k with a major chunk going for painting.

I sourced most of the parts for him. Parts that I bought cost me under 10-12k (I bought some extra parts for stocking).

He took a month to restore.

BTW, many chrome parts aren’t available now - mainly: mudguards, wheels (I put Gabriels) etc.

I would have loved to do the same but lack of equipment and space to perform all the maintenance is a big deal. I stay in an apartment where parking space comes at a premium.

Wow superb pics and the bike looks great after restoration. In the last one week I have gone through many restoration experts ,painters and mechanics who ask exorbitant prices for a complete makeover. Done a regular service and changed parts which got wear & tear over time such as chain sprocket, rubber seals, wires etc. Changed the horrendous looking old pulsur indicators and tail light to the original ones. Added a new shining luggage carrier with new seats. The bike looks road worthy and okay after these changes . However, some niggles I am facing with the bike that is little oil leak from the carburetor and knocking after 60 to 70 km/hr speed with lots of vibrations. My hands were tingling after 100 kms. I have also applied for FC renewal and name transfer so hopefully it will done in a weeks time.

Congrats on the restoration however i feel that 80K for restoration is just too much, i restored my 2003 rx 135 recently for one third of it,
considering the bike was idle from almost 7 years, it was pretty much rusty and i had to change whole lot of parts , including the spokes, rimes, tires, tank, shields, meter assembly and chassis painting to list a few.
New bore was installed (had stored it since 2010) clutch and pressure plates, new clutch cover and magnet cover (got the RX king covers) and a new flower head. most of the work was done in my basement apart from the painting which costed me 6k including the chrome bits, parts costed me 12k, however i went overboard and got my self a Flatslide carb which set me back by 10k and the bike is now better than new.
last but not least got a front disk brake assembly which was not really required and costed me the most around 12k (RXZ assembly)
dont have the before and after pics but have a now pic

dont mind the chamber, have painted and installed the Cat now, just wanted to test the potential of the setup with the chamber on.
