Re: TVS Jupiter or something else?

Update:

It's the Suzuki Swish 125 for INR 60,500.00 or the TVS Jupiter for INR 61,300.00 on road Mumbai.
My boss (wife) is going abroad for a month and would like me to purchase the scooter after she comes back.

Thank you once again everybody. Will update the thread on my new babies arrival!

Cheers

Re: TVS Jupiter or something else?

Even if we people agree that the Vespa S is overpriced-(which it certainly is!)

WHY ON EARTH HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN THE VESPA LX & VX 125?

Both are excellent scooters, IMO. Because-

1)For 20K more, if I'm getting a monocoque bodied scooter, it gets a plus point from me. The single unit construction of the Vespa is preferable, to the seperate chassis of the competition.

2) A three valve head. Beat that! The competition comes with an agricultural, antiquated 2 valve head system.

3)Also, Disc-Brakes! Methinks they are worth it.

Summing up: Believe me, the Vespa 125 is just DIVINE! The oodles of chrome, the torquey 3 valve 125 cc motor, this motor is a gem! Very free revving, a joy to drive. Advantages over the Japs are immense. The build quality! The Motor! Style! The solidness! The firm ride!

And did I mention, its quite fuel efficient. The Vespa is a piece of art, fit for the conneisseur. Its worth it, mark my words!

Cheers!

I agree with you completely Fintail. The S version looks fabulous.
Took a test drive of the Vespa S and VX, just did not feel comfortable or would have bought it! The handling seemed funny for want of a better word. Maybe it's the small wheels, cannot put my finger on it. Discarded the Vespa from my shortlist with a heavy heart.

Cheers

Re: TVS Jupiter or something else?

From what i have heard from TVS folks, the jupiter has many many small changes to its drivetrain and engine which makes it quite efficient. And yes the quality of plastics are great!

But that said, I wish they gave it the disc brake up front. The Wego has it.

Re: TVS Jupiter or something else?

Comments about vespa are damn true. It's a looker, grabs eyeballs like no other. high speed stability is best in class and i feel it actually has a softer suspension than most of the other scooters. Paint quality is also the best in class. One problem though is that it's low-speed handling is vague. Cornering at speeds above 50kmph on highways is delightful, but at low speeds it takes some time to respond. Just doesn't have the flickability of ray, but not too far off from the activa either. If you have the budget for it, get the vespa S or the VX.

It could've been the tyres with a low/high air pressure. At the showrooms, either the pressures are too low, or quite high. Though, a slight issue is present, with the handling.

Actually, I quite agree, I confess! Perfect, everything. Somewhat funny handling at low speeds, to some extent, yes. However, if one has the patience to perfect the air pressure, part of the issue can be resolved.

The Vespa is awesome, no doubt about that. After all, methinks, YOLO (For the uninitiated, You only live once!), so why waste your time, buying those commuters, which are lifeless, so common, that no one turns their eyes on them, nothing special!

So, bought the Vespa, after a decade with the Hondas. Irony is-That the Vespa came home 50 years later, than when the first Vespa came to us! Yes! We bought a Vespa in 1964. Ah! Those were the days! Similarly, after living with Willys Jeeps, Fiat Selects, Standard 10's, Fiat 1100Ds, and with the ever boring Maruties and enduring them for three decades, we've decided to buy-A Linea! (Plans-Do they ever succeed? I do hope this does!)

Italian products, however quirky they seem, always have 2 things-

1)Style ( Flaminio Betroni designed the Citroen Traction Avant in a boat! Believe it or not)

2)Mechanical Perfection- I need not elaborate on the Fiat 1.3 MultiJet!

Another advantage of the Vespa, is that it runs on Synthetic oils. Of AGIP make (Yes! Even the oil is Italian)

Cheers!

Congratulations on the Vespa mate!
I was so much in love with the looks that I rode the S and VX from the showroom - to be sure about the funny handling. Did not want to let it go, so contacted a friend of mine who owns a VX and took a ride again. I felt the funny feeling with the handling on all three scooters - had to drop the idea.

After a Lambretta, three RX 100's, Suzuki Shogun and an Activa, looking for a scooter again . Just cannot make up my mind between the Swish and Jupiter. Real crazy!

Pray your plan regarding the Linea comes to fruition!

Cheers

Now, Now! Is it really a major problem? Just a small quirk. The Vespa is full of vigour, full of life, vibrant! I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO GET ENOUGH OF IT.

P.S: The Vespa also has a digital clock. Extremely classy, methinks.

Now if you've made up your choice, I would take the Swish 125. Too plane jane for me....geddit? Hardly looks distinctive. Looks like anything else!
Still, has its merits, and is better than a Wego, methinks.

But the Vespa, nothing like it. Perhaps age will sort out the handling issue. You know, stiffening of plastics, tyres, tyre pressures and such. Still, the Vespa........So very classy.......Lovin'it!

Cheers!

Please don't buy the Aviator I've been using it for a long time. It's extremely uncomfortable on long journeys, the seat is not designed well you keep getting pushed forward when you brake and your bottom needs to be push hard on the seat to get grip (your bottom is sore after a long journey). If you want to sit next to the rise on the seat your back goes for a toss and you get pushed forward when you brake. On a straight line it grips like water on glass, it's not balanced properly and feels jittery during turns not to mention during rains it's even worse.

Drive the aviator for a long time then decide on it. It's not worth the money you pay.

Re: TVS Jupiter or something else?

My sister has yamaha ray for past 1.25 yrs. I noticed the following pros and cons of the scooter:
Pros
1.good ride comfort with good suspensions
2.light weight-easy riding for women
Cons
1.low mileage
2.engine feels under powered with 2 people and also engine sound is not pleasant
3.no great service from yamaha (thats common across other scooters too)
4.lack of availability of accessories-had lot of trial and error for the fender guard fitting for the scooter which has never happened till date.
5.less leg room.
6.very less space under the seat-even a small size helmet will not fit in.
7.cold start is a pain.

I had dio with me for 7 years. Should say that it was the best ever two wheeler we had, so good it was performing even with very little maintenance. Any day honda scooters are good, but the dealer attitude sucks.

As far as jupiter is concerned I didnt like the looks and color options avalable. Among all colors , I think red looks better. Yet to take a test ride and decide.

Very eagerly waiting for the activa 125. Looks like it will be a good package.

Re: TVS Jupiter or something else?

Hello Cyborg,
Personally have a Maestro which dad uses and a Wego which mom rides at home. Maestro is a Sept 2012 model and Wego a June 2012 one. Its been almost 1.5 years and both the scoots are running absolutely fine touchwood. Also would like to add Dad has put on 25k and mom 7k. Both are used in B2B traffic in Cochin while the Maestro does go for long trips often. I would suggest both these scoots to you based on my personal experience.

Regarding the Jupiter,
On one of my service visits to Cochin TVS, the local TVS authorised dealer I was offered an extensive test drive. In short I would like to say its a matured TVS Wego. I also felt while the Wego is good for both ladies and gents alike its the Jupiter that suits men more I feel, owing to the more muscular front end compared to the Wego. Just an observation.
We all know that the Wego is the best in class when it comes to ride and handling. The Jupiter is no different. But I felt it wasnt as slick as the Wego meaning you wont feel good throwing it into that little gap which I feel is due to the bigger size. However its an extremely nimble scoot and its better than the Activa/Maestro. Special mention needs to be made about the 12 inch alloys which is the main reason for the extremely good ride and handling you get and the alloys are now painted in black and looks excellent. Looks like an Activa IMO which was a downer for me. Coming to the engine part. Its the same one on the Wego, correct me if I am wrong. The 109 cc single cylinder engine develops 8 BHP and 8NM. Not very rev happy like the Honda 109 cc block which indeed has the best in class refinement and top whack for a 110 cc block. But what I like about the TVS block is the response you get lower down the rev range, simply excellent. Trumps the Honda in this department. But as the revs rise the story changes especially as you cross 60 on the speedo. This is purely from personal experience with the 2 scoots at home.

Now regarding the Wego engine stall issue, before delivery and during booking I did question the SA about this and everytime he told me that issue has been sorted out Saar. As you might know Wego got a subtle mid life update in May 2012. Not much changes. Just the change in battery current rating from 4 Ah to 5 Ah and some sticker work. I have the new model. But my engine has stalled nearly 4 times during the past 1.5 years of ownership. The guys at the dealership were clueless about this and did shoot a mail to the company to let them know I am not happy with this. However, decided to live with this, no choice I guess . Apart from this its been running just fine.

Suggest you test ride these scoots extensively and take a final decision. Good luck.
Cheers !!!

I have access at home for last 2 years now and my in-laws are using it for last 4 years now. Its a totally trouble free experience so far. Average is also better. We get around 40-45 in Pune city with lots of traffic. Ride quality is very good and pick up i found best when compared to competitors. Also it pulls effortlessly with 2 adults and one child. Seat is also wide and comfortable. Under seat space is also good and usable.

I suggest you to go for it eyes closed. I am sure you will never regret your decision.

Best of luck in advance

Completely agree with Aniket, have been using the access for almost 4 years now, best in class gearless scoot. Just a few more points to add like, low cost of spares and maintenance is a boon. Ride is not swingy like the other brands available and headlight is pretty powerful.

Thanks Aniket and Yogi!
The Honda Activa 125 is being launched in April 2014 as per Autocar India (it's on the website landing page). I am going to wait till then, check it out and decide.
It's a duel between the new Honda Activa 125 and the Suzuki twins.
Will share the finalist with you folks!

Cheers

Re: TVS Jupiter or something else?

If its for madam, I would suggest the Wego because of its lithe structure. Its metal body too like the segment leader Activa. Comes with front disc as optional. You may have to tutor its usage to madam though.

Maestro has trailing link front suspension and thats a deal breaker for me.

Jupiter is good too but Wego is more unisex.

Access and Swish will be apt if she too is a petrol head and appreciates the extra punch they blow in acceleration else, Wegos +2/3 kmpl over Swish/Access might save some pennies.

But most important- her TD with each scooter and which she feels comfy with.

My 2 Cents.
