RD or TZR

Hmmm, well, as the title suggests is the 1984 RD 350 LC YPVS or the 1987 TZR 250 YPVS a better choice?

The RD's specs
Capacity- 347.00cc
Power- 58.00 HP
Weight(wet)- 170 kgs.
Cylinders- 2
Stroke- 2
RPM Redline- 9500
Top Speed- 117mph (189kph)
This bike was made for the street, mad, and if tuned right can beat several larger capacity bikes of our time.

The TZR's specs
Capacity- 250.00cc
Power- 50.00 HP
Weight(wet)- 150 kgs.
Cyliners- 2
Stroke- 2
RPM Redline- not sure, but around 12000
Top Speed- 120mph (195kph)
This bike is the direct(street legal) cousin of the race track TZ250, which kicked a lot of *** in its time. This bike is extremely agile, and extremely quick. This can also blow some powerful large bikes.

So, what do you think? I did loads of research, but can't make up my mind. All opinions are greatly appreciated.

Whoa! Dude are you just asking us our preference or are you looking to buy one of those monsters?

I love both of them. But when it comes to it I would go for the TZR. But maintaining them is a bomb.

Well, this is what I have in mind, I am looking out for one of these to buy. If I don't find any in good condition or if they don't fit my budget, I walk straight into a Hero Honda showroom and buy a Karizma or stick to my car.

TZ is a much more modern bike. RD is really 70s technology.
Good luck finding either of them.

The RD 350 LC YPVS, is a Liquid cooled model that was imported. It was under production in the US from 1983 to 1989.

@devarshi84- I was refering to the TZR not the RZ. The RZ is a very sober bike(not the 350 61HP version) in comparison to the TZR. The TZR is in some way, more ferocious than the RD also, as it was a track bike made street legal and it also got itself the next level of YPVS technology. But they both have amazing power to weight ratios. The main difference where the TZR out does the RD is in handling and agility. This bike can be swerved around and you would still have loads of confidence left.

So, now you see, I'm still very very confused.

I still remember the review that I read 20 some yrs back ... on the RD 350 LC.... " Its power can easily lift the front wheels even in third gear ... and its twin front calipers can likewise lift the rear!"

Truly RACE DERIVED... but if the other one handles better ... then guess you should go for it!

Have seen my friend Smoke one of my other friend's CBR 600 RR with a Modded 350 LC, other TZR, have never seen or riden, but since you said you will buy a Karizma if you dont get any of the two, there are two points :
-> Looks like you need a daily use vehicle, so If you happen to buy one of those monsters then it will be in the garage for 2 months every 15 to 20 days you ride, and you know why.
-> I feel its a horrible downgrade from those two to a Karizma, you can might as well search for a good RD350 HT in India , pay abt 45 to 50k to get a neat bike and be happy and yeah ! forget the mileage part.

Last but not the least, those two stroke monsters need amazing throttle control, 2 Strokes have very different powerbands depending on the weather, so backflipping on a wheelie is the easiest thing to do

Haven't ridden the TZR, and love the RD, but I think the TZR would be a better choice.

The TZR revs to a manical 10,000 rpm man...insane! And by the looks of it, the TZR would handle better than the RD, and is a lot more rare.

All the best with what you choose.

not necessarily, depends also on a lot of factors like where they were riding, traffic conditions, etc
