UM Motorcycles 300-500 cc cruisers coming in Q2 2015

American bike maker UM Motorcycles is gearing up to launch cruiser motorcycles in the Indian market in the second quarter of 2015. These bikes will have engines in the 300-500 cc range and will be built at the Lohia Auto facility at Kashipur, Uttarakhand. The plant has an annual capacity to churn out 1,00,000 units.

UM Motorcycles has a 50:50 joint venture in India with Lohia Auto. The new entity is known as UML and the project will entail investments of Rs. 120 crore. The company is looking to appoint 50 dealers in the first phase in the year 2015. All metro cities of the country are expected to be covered.

The company's decision to launch 300-500 cc cruisers comes as a surprise and it had earlier announced that its bikes will be in the 200-230 cc range.

Locally manufacture of its bikes will enable the company to price them competitively against importing them as CBUs.

A US-based manufacturer, located in Miami, founded in the early 2000's. It doesn't say how old exactly the company is, and there is little information about them online. They have this one website, but that's about it.
They don't have a wiki page, nor are they listed on Wikipedia's List of Motorcycle Manufacturers

Who exactly are UM Motorcycles?

Actually, they are not a manufacturer.

They are an importing company who imports "their" motorcycles from the far East. (They are quite evasive when it comes to saying exactly where. I would guess China.)

This doesn't mean they won't be bringing the designs and technology of the company that actually builds what they sell to India. I'm sure they could by acting as the middle-man between the actual company that produces the motorcycles/scooters and a company in India.
