Lol! Keep waiting.

Best option with Ron is to drop it off with him. He will work on it only when he is free anyway, so keep aside lots of time

Its worth the wait, obviously.

Actually no, he in the process of upgrading th hardware, or has he done it already. There I a long waiting list, longer that getting a bik at reasonable cost.

I would be a buyer once there are enough CDIs in the market. Till then Ravi nagesh has to do.

I have a planned(obviously an official) trip to Bangalore next month. Planning to do the drop and disappear act.

re: Got gifted a Yamaha RD350. EDIT: Restoration completed

Gave the engine for rebuild today, have not spoken to the mech yet, just dropped and disappeared.

The crank is stuck so needs a rebuild. I have not given him and oil seals/ packing. Heads and side covers are also with the buffing guy.

I will update the thread with some pics tonight, hoping to get zinc dipped parts today.

Present update on the build. Parts procured from the new local dealer is absolute crap, the swing arm bushes are 1inch longer so had to use the old ones. Fixed the stand and front end. Waiting for the weekend to start the full swing build. Some pics

Pramod, what difference does this make? Infact, its better as long as the material used is good and it has proper grooves for grease to go into.
All you would need to do is get a thick GI pipe with the same ID as the pipe in the swingarm between the bushes and cut it short to accomodate the longer bushes. I would'nt suggest cutting the OE piece.

There is a guy in blore by the name of Siyal. I have been buying spares from him since a decade.
We have 4 RD's running the RDD cdi. Fabolous product but dealing with all the melodrama to procure them is a different story alltogether!

Cheers!

James, after fitting those bushes the swing arm was not clearing the gap. Looks like a straight lift from some other bike.

The old one got powder coated by mistake, using them with a lot of grease,

I am just worried how people started to make money by conning people but anyways. Today's update is my other rx 100 is 100% street legal now

This weekend was extremely disappointing. The chrome plating guy played spoil sport. He had some attrition which has put the build on hold. This will be hopefully done by this weekend. Painting will take 2 weeks minimum.

Bought the rear shocks, didn't go for RD units and went for Libero units instead, since the look very similar to stock. Assembled the shocks.

Got the engine side covers, painted in dupont satin black, came out a bit glossy, but by the third coat looks nice and thick.
Will post some daylight pics tomorrow.

The head was fully painted, need to buff the edges, tank and other stuff is in primer. Will get it by saturday, hoping to get the stickering done by saturday and return for final 3 coats of clear.

We got the crank freed, looks fine. There is a play in the con rod bottom, looks like new con rods is the only solution.

Wife asked me today who is funding all this, should one reveal their secret stash detail to wifes? 😜I just told her to look and admire the buffed hub. Will keep the thread updated if i am not killed 😁

re: Got gifted a Yamaha RD350. EDIT: Restoration completed

I got so inspired by your thread that I'm thinking of restoring my Kawasaki Bajaj 125 which has been lying unused and battered for the last 8 years which was a gift to me by a dear friend. I'm getting ti transferred from Ahmedabad to Bangalore soon. Don't know how long the process will be, but I really want to bring it as close to its original condition. Here are a few pic of its current condition. Ouch!

Pramod, good to see detailed updates on this thread with progress made. Will be a great inspiration and knowledge base for others who intend to get into this endeavor in future.
Would suggest if you can also post details of shops or online links from where you are sourcing the parts. A summary of expenses on the parts will also help others to understand what to expect on monetary front.
Eagerly waiting to see the final product.

I am planning to list all the spares once the build is complete, reason being, I have actually being conned as well along the way. I don't want anyone to end up conned. so I thought of curating the whole list. Give me some time please

re: Got gifted a Yamaha RD350. EDIT: Restoration completed

The weekend was dull, I was supposed to give the wheel for setting the spokes and truing but the hub was to be shaved 4mm. My neighbourhood spare shop guy promised me that he has a brand new set of HH CBZ rims (they are perfect fit). So woke up and went to him and decided to take my old rims for comparison.
The rims were thinner by 2”, they were not from a CBZ, and they were from a CD 100 instead. Checked all the shops in Trivandrum, no one has stock. In the meantime gave the Hub for shaving 4mm also gave the heads for buffing, they came out brilliant. Also did some small DIY the result came out awesome.
Placed order for new Connecting rods, got new crank bearings.
Pics below of the DIY(Yamaha Decals from RX 100)

Getting this from UK would not be a good solution cost wise, Its available here in India locally. I just need one sticker for the magneto cover(rest all are done). That I will get made from any good sticker shop(I have a scheme in mind)
