KTM to part-build Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen, Svartpilen in India

Stefan Pierer, President and CEO of KTM, has revealed that two Husqvarna motorcycles will be part built in India.

The Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen and 401 Svartpilen motorcycles, which were unveiled at EICMA in 2014, will enter production in 2016 and go on sale in 2017. The rolling chassis for the bikes will be built at the KTM-Bajaj factory in Chakan, near Pune and shipped to Austria with the engine installed. Both bikes will use the same 373.2 cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, water-cooled engine as the KTM 390 Duke. The final assembly of the bikes will take place in Matighoffen (Austria).

Both the 401 Vitpilen and 401 Svartpilen feature classic styling. While the Vitpilen is more road-focussed, the Svartpilen looks more rugged and capable of off-roading.

It is possible that KTM launches the Husqvarna brand in India sometime in the future.

Re: KTM to part-build Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen, Svartpilen in India

I feel this is a very good move by KTM-Bajaj. Not only does it encourage the 'Make in India' policy of our government, but also increases investment and employment, among others. A Husky that has been partly made in India will attract a lot of foreign players to scout land and talent in our country and repeat the same cycle.
With many brands figuring out that the 250cc-650cc market in India is going to boom in the nearby future, this is a brilliant decision.

Well done, Mr. Pierer!

Does anyone know why did Husqvarna stop producing the Nuda 900. It was an awesome bike. Super super fun.

Thanks

Re: KTM to part-build Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen, Svartpilen in India

Please, sir, I am badly wanting one Svartpilen... please help me to avail of the same.

Okay, I can live with the name (beats "Dazzler" any day). Now, what would it take to sneak one of these discreetly out the back door of the Bajaj factory? At least for one little joyride? Five minutes? Two?

Because why, oh, why, do I get this terrible, sinking, oft-felt feeling that no, KTM will NOT, ever, never launch the Husky here? It would just be too perfect.

And which enlightened individual in the upper echelons is it exactly that is convinced that India is capable enough to build these, but not to sell them?

Longingly,
Eric

because after BMW sold Husqvarna to Stefan they were obviously were not going to continue supplying engines to the new owners effectively KTM, neither would KTM like to use BMW engines. so the Nuda had to be killed. but the future for Husqvarna is bright..exciting times indeed.

Earlier this year, Stefan Pierer, President and CEO of KTM, had revealed that two Husqvarna motorcycles would be partly built in India. Unveiled at EICMA 2014, the Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen and 401 Svartpilen are slated to enter production in 2016 and go on sale in 2017. It now looks like the 401 Vitpilen has been caught on test in Spain.

Re: KTM to part-build Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen, Svartpilen in India

Came across this article yesterday.

http://www.bikesindia.org/news/scoop...ing-ready.html

Reporting 2 374cc motorcycles being imported to India for R&D purposes by KTM. Although the articles authoritatively speculates that those are the 390 adventures, I think this could very well be the 401 prototypes.

So, here we have it. Husqvarna bikes to be part built in India, then shipped to Austria and then shipped back to India? Sounds silly to me.

Media speculations

KTM is likely to introduce the Husqvarna brand in emerging markets including India. Additionally, the company is considering the production of Husqvarna bikes in India.

Re: KTM to part-build Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen, Svartpilen in India

Some good news headed our way.

Quote:
At the moment, all three motorcycles - the 701 Supermoto, the 401 Svartpilen and the 401 Vitpilen - will be made at the KTM Mattighofen, Austria facility.

2018: Focus on India
But in 2018, the production of the 401 models will shift to Chakan near Pune. OVERDRIVE now has confirmation that the motorcycles will be made for the Indian as well as global markets, just like the KTM Duke models are.

Husqvarna motorcycles to enter India production by 2020: Stefan Pierer

Quote:
While it was indicated earlier that the Husqvarna brand would enter India next year, in February 2017, the news emerging from EICMA 2017 suggests that KTM and Bajaj Auto have agreed to add Husqvarna to the Indian market with production at Bajaj's Chakan plant starting in late 2019 and market roll out likely early 2020. KTM CEO Stefan Pierer also indicated that while current KTM production from Bajaj Auto was already at 1 lakh units annually, the addition of Husqvarna, along with the growth of KTM numbers - domestic and exports - should double the annual production volume

The Husqvarna 401 twins have been spotted testing on Indian soil for the very first time by a Zigwheels reader.

Re: KTM to part-build Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen, Svartpilen in India

Heres a video from Jay Lenos Garage talking about the 710 and 401's

The India bound 401 totally looks like they have taken the entire Duke 390 engine and specs.

So with the same 373 engine we will have A Street fighter, Motocross / Cafe Racer and a Track oriented RC.

The styling is not too sporty like the Duke or RC and seems mature / different, which can expand the buyer interest on the same.

Will be interesting to see the pricing.
