Now, book a Vespa scooter on Snapdeal

Snapdeal, the e-commerce website has started accepting bookings for Vespa scooters. The Vespa brand store on the website will showcase the entire range of Vespa scooters that is available in India. This includes the Vespa, Vespa VX, Vespa S and Vespa Elegant. The ex-showroom prices of the scooters in various cities have been provided on the website.

Any Vespa scooter can be booked for an amount of Rs. 5,000, which will be deducted from the total on-road price of the vehicle. This booking is non-cancellable. The documentation and payment of the balance amount (on-road price - Rs. 5,000) will be done at the allocated dealership. The vehicle will be available on the same day or within 2 - 5 days (based on the inventory available) of the dealership visit. The first 100 customers will get 2000 SD cash in their Snapdeal account within 30 days post completion of the purchase of the vehicle.

Snapdeal has been associated with automakers in the past. In September 2014, it was accepting bookings for the Mahindra Scorpio. In December, the entire range of two-wheelers from Hero MotoCorp could be booked on the website.

Re: Now, book a Vespa scooter on Snapdeal

What a lame effort.

Why would anyone 'book' a Vespa online? What is the advantage? I anyway have to visit the dealer later on. Looks like Snapdeal got the entire 'buy cars / bikes online' concept wrong.

Their lack of commitment shows in two other areas:

- A pdf with ex-showroom prices is located somewhere on the page. Would having accurate on-road prices be too much to ask for? Does the customer have a right to know exactly how much it's going to cost him?

- Typos on the product page. Seriously . Can you afford to have typos on the listing page for a Rs. 75,000 product?

Re: Now, book a Vespa scooter on Snapdeal

Not just lame they have clearly not thought through this one. I saw they are also listing motorcycles, cars & even yachts under this category!

This is going to be one legal nightmare.

Consider these questions:
  • Who is the seller? Snapdeal, Automobile manufacturer or the zonal dealer?
  • What is being sold? A 'booking' service or a product?
  • How is the rest of the transaction to be completed? On Snapdeal or outside of it?
  • What happens if there is an issue with booking? Is Snapdeal liable or the dealer?
  • Is Snapdeal licensed to offer automobile insurance products in the country, even if it's for free? What's next? Car loans?
