Looks more of a 'major' update than an all new bike. Maybe this will replace the existing models.

Many parts are from existing RTR series. Engine cowl, crash guard, front shocks. Draken had trellis frame whereas this doesn't.

Might be just an update for the existing 160 and 180.

Re: Scoop: New motorcycle caught testing. Is this the TVS Draken?

Sorry for the back to back post. Mods please merge it with the previous one.
Credits to respective site

Here are the key details of the new TVS Apache 200 at a glance:
  • Petal disc brake setup
  • Conventional telescopic suspension upfront
  • Monoshock suspension at the rear
  • The exhaust pipe looks crude and we expect to see a better unit in the production ready model
  • Conventional blinkers
  • Silver finish brake/clutch lever
  • No steel braided brake lines
  • High raised handlebar
  • Trademark TVS handlebar grips
  • Tank shrouds for a brawny look to the front
  • Plastic underbelly cover to protect the engine from pebbles and mud
  • Offset, flush, aircraft style fuel filler cap
  • The split seat setup is unlike any TVS motorcycle till date, with a taller set pillion seat
  • Rider seat gets a dotted pattern with a slit-type design at the rear
  • Side and rear panel to get a faux honeycomb grille
  • Seat removal lock placed right behind rider seat
  • Unconventional pillion grab bar starts from the rear, at top of the tail light and extends towards the front
  • Rubber coated rider footpegs, metal foot rest for the pillion
Instrument Cluster
  • Compact instrument cluster
  • Gets tachometer on the top
  • Digital clock on the extreme left
  • Service reminder icon below the digital clock
  • Gear position indicator above the digital clock
  • Gear shift indicator (similar to the one seen on the BMW G 310 R) on the right top of the panel
  • Speedometer at the centre
  • Fuel meter below the speedometer
  • “Race ON” mentioned below the fuel meter
  • Odometer (with a little over 900 kms clocked) and trip meters on the extreme right
  • Tell-tale indicators placed below the digital console
  • ABS icon visible on the left part of tell-tale indicators
  • Instrument cluster bordered by black plastic cladding with a TVS logo in the centre
That’s a lot of detail for just a few spy shots. But we’re sure there’s a lot more to the new motorcycle than a new shape. Expect a power output in the region of 22 bhp from the new engine, though we cannot be sure about this.

Re: Scoop: New motorcycle caught testing. Is this the TVS Draken?

TVS has been testing the new Apache 200 motorcycle for many months. Now, two test mules of the bike have been spotted in Bengaluru, reported to be in the production-ready guise.

The Apache 200 is based on the Draken concept that was displayed at the 2014 Auto Expo. It is rumoured to be powered by a 200cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke petrol engine that is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

One of the test mules has a flat, single-piece handlebar, while the other has clip-on handlebars. Other features include a digital instrument cluster, split seats, clear lens turn-indicators, and a side-mounted exhaust.

The Apache 200 has front and rear disc brakes, a telescopic fork suspension at the front and a monoshock at the rear.

TVS is expected to launch the Apache 200 later this year.

A 200 cc with a 5 speed when everything else its up against are 6 speeds?! Is it liquid cooled? Not sure I could make that out from the pic.

Re: Scoop: New motorcycle caught testing. Is this the TVS Draken?

It looks like Oil Cooled, notice the engine cowl picture. The current Apache bottom engine does not have enough space to accommodate the 6th gear. So the 200 might still continue to get the 5 speed gearbox. But 6 speeder is a must.

A fresh set of images from Indonesia show the upcoming motorcycle with a digital instrument cluster, a familiar looking headlamp cluster with a halogen bulb, and white boomerang-shaped DRLs that don't quite blend with the yellow headlamp hue.

Best ever spy shots of the TVS Apache 200 have emerged on the internet.
This time, the bike sports body decals as camouflage and not an external sheet over the body.

With this, the new Apache 200 reveals its silhouette and it is looking very, very good.
Also, the bike looks quite bulky from the front end.

Specification:
-200cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve, SOHC petrol engine
-Based on RTR 180 engine
-Oil cooler
-26 PS of power
-Rev limit at 9,000 RPM
-No fuel injection, uses a carburettor
-5 speed gearbox
-270 mm front petal disc
-250 mm rear petal disc
-Front Tyre – 90/90 R17 (TVS SriChakra)
-Rear Tyre – 130/70/R17 (TVS SriChakra)
-140 kg in weight

Other highlight:
-Single downtube tubular steel chassis
-Box section steel swing arm

BMW played very crucial role in development
-Cooling system sourced from BMW
-LED DRL
-Flat tank lid
-All-digital TFT instrument cluster
-LED tail lamps
-Split seats
-Pirelli tyres as option
-ABS
-Telescopic front fork & rear monoshock

Time for KTM to bring out something faster, or the TVS Apache 200 is all set to zoom past it.

Re: Scoop: New motorcycle caught testing. Is this the TVS Draken?

Front fairing is more like the Pulsar DTSi.
Tank fairing is like the Pulsar NS
Rear is like the HH Hunk!
The silencer is the only unique element that can be spotted. But the bulge is a bit too much!

Easy there. Its under camouflage and too easy to spot the similarities. Maybe wiser to wait till launch.

Re: Scoop: New motorcycle caught testing. Is this the TVS Draken?

A patent image and the specifications of the upcoming TVS Apache 200 have been leaked ahead of the bike's expected unveil on January 20, 2016. The styling of the Apache 200 is influenced by the Draken concept that was displayed at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. The headlamp, fuel tank, alloy wheels and other parts are similar to the ones on the concept.

Scoop: New motorcycle caught testing. Is this the TVS Draken?-1.jpg

The Apache 200 gets clip-on handlebars, a digital instrument cluster, split seats, clear lens turn-indicators, and a side-mounted exhaust. It has a telescopic fork suspension at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The bike weighs 140 kg.

The Apache 200 is reportedly powered by a 200cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, carburetted, 4-stroke petrol engine with an oil cooler. The unit produces 26 BHP and 22 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Stopping power comes from 270 mm and 250 mm petal disc brakes at the front and rear respectively. Dual channel ABS is expected to be provided on the bike as well.

The TVS Apache 200 is expected to go on sale later this year.

Re: Scoop: New motorcycle caught testing. Is this the TVS Draken?

The rear sprocket is the biggest I've ever seen in Indian bikes. A bigger sprocket is better for longevity of chain. The bike looks good, hopefully TVS will not do a lot of 'stickering' on it and keep the paint quality top notch.

Re: Scoop: New motorcycle caught testing. Is this the TVS Draken?

Some visual improvement points noted from the pics over and above the present out-going Apache RTR180:

1) Extended Clip on Handle bars to have a more upright seating position.
This was one of the reasons many prospective customers backed up from buying an Apache. And customers like me who are in the process of converting an Apache RTR180 clip-on handlebars into a single piece handlebar for a more upright seating position. This would eventually ease the stress on my wrists but increase relatively a little stress on my back, which I am "ok" with.

2) A split seat
The shape and size of the dedicated pillion seat looks welcoming. Need for comfortable seats for pillion is the need of the hour in Indian market.

3) Rear set foot pegs
I am happy that they have retained the rear set foot pegs for the rider. I personally get less knee-aches with rear set foot pegs than a commuterish position.

4) Engine Power:
If we have to believe the comments that the 200 will make 26 hp, then its a dream come true. To add to it the bike only has a oil cooler and is not liquid cooled which means higher reliability and lesser maintenance.

But has TVS addressed the biggest problem with Apache, its "NVH". The engine looks similar to the RTR180 and I fear a higher power will adversely affect the NVH.
Not only the vibrations have to come down but they need to also work on the harsh sound of the engine.

I hope the alliance with BMW would help in improving the NVH of this otherwise gem of a machine. I hope they add a balancer shaft to improve the vibrations and harshness.
