The Honda Activa has crossed the 1 crore cumulative sales mark, becoming the first scooter in India to achieve the milestone. The Activa was introduced in 2001 and was the first product to be launched by Honda in India.



Honda managed to sell 55,000 units of the scooter in FY 2001-02. Since then, the scooter market has grown at a rapid rate. In FY 2014-15, the company sold 2.1 million units of the Activa. Honda has also become the market leader in scooters with a share of 59%.



The scooter has also been locked in a battle with the Hero Splendor motorcycle for becoming the best-selling two-wheeler in India. In June and July 2015, it displaced the motorcycle to become the no. 1 seller for two consecutive months. In July 2015, the demand for the Activa helped Honda to become the first manufacture to sell more than 2.5 lakh scooters in a single month.

The Activa is available with 110cc and 125cc, four-stroke, air-cooled engines that feature Honda Eco Technology and are mated to a V-Matic (gearless) transmission. It is equipped with features such as tubeless tyres and combi-brake system.

No wonder the streets in almost every city in India is filled with Activas. Honda took the first mover advantage with a better speced and good looking scooter and maintained the lead to such an extent that none of the competition could match it.

Owning one, I can relate to the ease of use of the scooter which of course comes with its own Achilees heel i.e front spring loaded suspension. With so many options available now as compared to yonder years, I am surprised to see people still preferring Activas over other brands.

Honda's masterstroke was their timing with the Activa. They entered a dying segment and built-up a bulletproof reputation. There are more well-rounded offerings in the segment today, but the Activa has a permanent parking space in the minds of the Janta.

Hello,

My nephew is going to buy a scooter soon. Noone in the family has any idea of which scooter is good and that is why we were thinking of the activa because it is common (so thinking it probably sells more because its good).

Please tell which are the better scooters (gearless) available today and how they are better than activa.

Honda Activa Becomes Country's Top Selling Two Wheeler in January 2016

Honda 2 wheelers today announced the continued success of its popular automatic scooter Activa, which has bagged the title for being country's top selling scooter for the fifth time this fiscal in January 2016. Last month Honda sold a total of 210,123 units of the iconic automatic scooter Activa in India crossing the 2 lakh sales mark. This brings the Activa's sales over four times bigger than the nearest competition, Hero Maestro, which recorded total sales of 48,000 units in January 2016.

Why don't you consider the Honda NAVI?

Thanks payeng, but he bought Hero maestro edge inSeptember and is very happy with it.
