Suzuki Gixxer, Gixxer SF with rear disc brake spotted on test. EDIT: Now launched

In September 2014, Suzuki launched the Gixxer 155cc naked motorcycle in India. The company went on to introduce a fully-faired version of the bike, called the Gixxer SF, in April 2015. Now Suzuki is gearing up to give the Gixxer twins an update.

Spy images of the Gixxer twins show the two bikes with rear disc brakes. At present both bikes are available with drum brakes at the rear. The addition of disc brakes at the rear will enhance the motorcycles' braking capabilities.

The Gixxer and Gixxer SF are powered by a 154.9cc, carburetted, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that develops 14.6 BHP @ 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of torque @ 6,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

This is a good move. They seem to be keeping their ears close to the ground this time. They are fixing the only gripe I had with this bike. I might pick this one up for my commuting duties a year down the line by trading in my current bike.

Ah, that is a sensible move from Suzuki. The Gixxer twins will now feel complete. I reckon there will be a significant hike in price though, probably around Rs 5000. It would push the SF's on-road price over the Rs 1 lakh mark, at which point it would risk being seen as overpriced. It'll be interesting to see what strategy Suzuki adopts to counter that.

re: Suzuki Gixxer, Gixxer SF with rear disc brake spotted on test. EDIT: Now launched

The Gixxer twins have been updated with Fi and rear disc brakes. Good to see the company giving meaningful updates rather than sticker jobs!

Quote:
The SF Fi is powered by the same 155cc engine that does duty in the Gixxer naked motorcycle. Since Suzuki wouldn’t state just how much the power and torque has increased thanks to fuel-injection, we reckon it is marginal. This move comes in at the right time for Suzuki as the Indian government has decided to impose stricter emission norms for two wheelers which requires newly launched bikes to comply to BSIV norms by April 2016.
Quote:
Along with the Fi system Suzuki has also equipped all variants of the Gixxer and Gixxer SF with a 240mm rear disc with single floating caliper to enhance the braking efficiency of an already capable motorcycle

Suzuki Gixxer Rear Disc Variant Launched; Priced at INR 79,726 (ex- showroom Del)

The Suzuki Gixxer now sports a 240mm rear disc brake with a single floating caliper, while cosmetic updates are limited to the new clear lens indicators, same as the updated Gixxer SF.

Apart from Gixxer street-fighter, Suzuki India will be introducing the rear disc brake on the Gixxer SF later on the year. The SF has also been updated with fuel-injection that is mated to the same 154.9cc motor, helping improve the throttle response on the motorcycle apart from fuel injection.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer, Gixxer SF with rear disc brake spotted on test. EDIT: Now launched

Meaningful updates for a good bike in the form of Rear disk brake and Fuel Injection. Though personally I feel
1. a little increase in BHP would have grabbed more attention for it.
2. Introducing an ABS variant - a segment first! Apache RTR 180 comes with ABS within same price range, but Full Fairing, ABS, dual disks and FI would have taken the premium 150cc game to next level.

Only rear disc has been added I don't think fuel injection has been introduced in this yet. Although the SF might get it in future which is a welcome feature.

You are right, my friend. SF-fi was showcased in the Auto Expo, and is slated to be launched next year.
