And, by the time the strategy is ready, this little Beemer might have even a lot of competitors and have very less 'informed' takers. I was waiting for a confirmed news from BMW motorrad about this product but now that I have lost my patience. Excited to lay my hands on the D390 very soon

Not really clear about the Motorrad’s decision. Somebody on a different channel has shared the below response which he has received from BMW Motorrad regarding the G310R.

These are indeed automated replies. Just look at the query I posted and the reply I got back:

BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh-bmwmotorrad.jpg

But this is still positive news. They are at least preparing their plans to launch the bike in India.

Guess how will it look with the front number plate on!

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

I am passively following the developments on this thread, since last few months. Seems lot of confusion around this, will it be ever launched or not. I guess even BMW/TVS are also confused if they want to launch it here. Came across this news just now.

TOI Link : https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...w/61024148.cms

Excerpt from TOI :
Quote:
BMW Motorrad has confirmed that it is going to launch both of its entry-level motorcycles -- the G 310 R streetfighter and the G 310 GS adventure -- in India in the second-half of 2018.
The BMW G 310 R is one of the most awaited motorcycles in India since its unveiling at the 2016 Auto Expo while the G 310 GS is expected to make its Indian debut at the 2018 Auto Expo.
Developed under a joint venture between the German automaker and India's TVS Motor Company, the small-capacity motorcycles are being manufactured at the latter's facility in Hosur. However, the motorcycles are being exported for sale in the international market as of now.
Bolted on a steel-trellis frame, the BMW G 310 R gets its power from a new 313cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that comes mated to a six-speed transmission. The fuel-injected motor churns out 34PS and a torque of 28Nm. The bike claims a top speed of 145kmph along with a fuel economy of 30.18kmpl in the international markets.
Beefy USD forks, rear monoshock with adjustable preload, wide tubeless tyres, front and rear disc brakes and ABS are among the standard key features of the bike. Its adventure compatible sibling, the BMW G 310 GS gets mild off-roading capabilities with longer-travel suspension set-up, larger 19-inch front wheel and some other mechanical and cosmetic changes.
The BMW G 310 R directly competes with the likes of the popular, fully-loaded KTM 390 Duke that has been priced too aggressively -- at Rs 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) -- by Bajaj with local production. Now considering the fact that the BMW G 310 R is also manufactured in India, it can be expected to carry a similar or slightly cheaper price tag than the 390 Duke, like it is in the international market.
The adventure version of the bike costs around 550 pounds extra over and above the roadster version in the international market, So, one can expect the BMW G 310 GS priced between Rs 30,000-50,000 over the roadster version.
BMW Motorrad has also confirmed its participation at the 2017 India Bike Week (IBW) where it may provide more specific details on the India launch of its small-capacity models.

The way they are approaching the market, I am sure Bajaj will chew through one more edition of KTM triplets, before they even start selling it.

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

India is listed on the "Request for offer page" and "Request for test ride" pages for G310R. Interestingly, India is NOT listed on bike configurator page. Snapshots are attached (removed them now) and below is the link:
http://www.bmw-motorrad.com/com/en/i..._overview.html

Also, in G310S page, there are no links for the test ride or request of offer. So, may be we could safely assume that they plan to launch G310R first before G310S:
http://www.bmw-motorrad.com/com/en/i..._overview.html

Now only two questions remain - when and how much? Of-course I am
talking about G310R. Hoping for the best news from BMW

Looks like the pre eicma stall at BMW. 5.8 lakhs ex showroom means they will not sell any at all in spite of launching the bike here, and therefore there is no need to set up more dealerships to cater to the volume segment. Sound strategy i must say.

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

Dead On Arrival! 5.8 Lakhs for a single cylinder (TVS), 310 cc adventure motorcycle. That's ridiculous! They could have replaced the BMW badge with TVS ones and reduced the price by 3 lakhs and it would be worth it. BMW is trying to mimic the F650 Funduro pricing strategy I guess. I am sure at this price - all prospective buyers will line up either at the KTM Showroom (390 Adv) or the RE showroom (RE Himalayan) or the Kawasaki showroom (V650). Don't see any takes for the 310 GS.

So BMW partnered with TVS to develop the engine and then manufacture the G310R / 310GS to keep the developing / manufacturing costs down. Why then are they charging such a huge price for this advantage?

So they're charging more than what the 650GS costs in the US for pretty much literally half that bike! I can't fathom who would buy these when you have so many other options in that range.

I never really took to this bike from the get-go, unfavourably comparing it to the much better (in my opinion) Duke 390. Somebody at BMW/TVS really needs a reality check.

Isn't 5.8 lac the launch price for the 310R (not GS) in Taiwan? Pretty sure India prices are yet to be announced and cannot / will not follow suit

Looks like you're right. I did a quick check for the Duke 390 in Taiwan, and it is NTD 348k versus NTD 269k for the G310R.

Here's the source that wasn't mentioned earlier.

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

BMW g310 GS may sell if they offer 2 bikes for 5.8L INR.
I guess more than the product itself, pricing is key. Look at what happened to JEEP initially. If BMW is interested in numbers, anything more then 3.5 ex will be an issue. Soon India will see many bikes in adv. touring category. There is 390 adv in making, there is talk of the new 650 RE twin on Himalayan. Hero is been gearing up for a category launch this week. Just the BMW logo isnt going to do magic for them. And going by the review based on product launch & test rides for auto journalists, the baby GS is good but its nothing earth shattering for folks to consider it at any cost.

In a way its good if they price at 5.8, straight-away one option less to consider and fight-over.
