Re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

A little birdie tells me that the Kochi dealership has over 50 bookings of the new BMWs. So much for my predictions of their sales numbers.

Re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

@ashwinprakas

Sire, More then BMW its the KTM which is the issue. They have priced their range of dukes 200s and 390s so brilliantly that anything else feels expensive in comparison. Abroad the difference is lost with both priced more or less similarly.

Bajaj is known to make value-for-money products, they own almost half of KTM and have a much superior and strong network of sales and service. BMW is not exactly known for value based offerings, on contrary its got a premium brand image. secondly, in India they have just 7+1 outlets, cant sell too many bikes and gather negative publicity about service and spares. Also cant upset/ignore the bigger imported BMW customers. They delayed the launch in indian anyways, should have figured out a better channel to retail the 310s, maybe like 'probiking" a premium channel associated with some of the bigger TVS outlets and kept the prices in check. but such is not the case and made-in-india advantage for Indian customer is lost. So yes, BMW is not offering value for money here and people looking for the same will have to wait for 390 adv to hit the market. and its not about 3.5L baby GS or 35L 1200GSA with tele-lever, if terrain demands one will have to stand on the pegs. I know people who enjoy blasting through bad patches standing on the pegs, why would you want to sit and torture the body. But if your point is suspension is general, most of these adv bikes have a comfortable suspension which does much better when it comes to touring on broken country.

Test rode the 310GS AGAIN yesterday. Few added observations:
Bike is tall.
Needs atleast 2" handle bar risers for very upright posture, else torso upwards is slightly leaning in. Bar risers would also help in standing on the pegs, as currently its not very natural when one stands.
Rear brake pedal position feels awkward, as if one would miss it. Not sure if its adjustable, or if one will get used to it.
The headlight assembly fitment is shaky as pointed out by so many people and reviews. the movement can be seen from the rear side as well.
Fit and finish it nice, however the cowls and shrouds around the headlight looked bit on the flimsy side, incase of a topple.
Tank feels big and wide, pity its only 11 odd lts. Wonder what all they are doing underneath that cover.
Mirrors are just about ok, will need extenders for cleat view. Bar risers may help a bit.
Horn is useless like most bike which are made for export. Will require an aftermarket louder option for sure.
The bike leans in drastically quick in corners, not sure if its the tyre profile or 19 and 17 size. will require getting used to.
Braking felt just about ok.
Suspension is very soft, esp the rear one. feels like sitting on a rocking chair.
Power is linear and not intimidating. People looking for power or folks used to riding bigger bikes will get bored with this on the highway. 310gs makes a good case for country roads and city commute.
Very good low end torque/ride-ability at lower speeds. Easy to take corners and speed breakers in 2nd gear, no need to shift to first.
Exhaust note is underwhelming, nothing to write home about. Aftermarket options may help but again cost??

Overall, the bike would require a fair bit of customization to suit individual rider, which would further take the cost high for an already over priced bike. Not everyone's cup of tea after the initial honeymoon period is over.

Did anyone here get their hands on either of the twins? They have told that deliveries were going to start from a week later when the bikes were launched. 🤨

Deliveries in Delhi already started, few bikes were delivered yesterday.

In Bangalore, first lot bikes have reached the showroom, so just a matter of days. Anyone here on TBHP who is booked and waiting?

G310R v/s RR310 -

Better acceleration, better topend, better equipment, better engineering v/s better badge value. (Not a road comparison though!)

Kun says the delivery in Chennai is expected to start from 10th or 11th, which is around the time my friend has been promised delivery of his GS.

Some pics of the initial deliveries that happened today in Bangalore, received via various whatsapp groups. Heard the situation was a little messy due to maximum people and minimum space, but good to see a lot many baby GS getting takers.

OT - Rishab construction helmets also make their official presence felt in a BMW showroom delivery pic. .

Any update on accessories offered by BMW or TVS?
Keen on how they are going to price both the Akrapovic pipes(street legal and race only) for their bikes.

Akrapovic for RR is 55k, should be same for BMW.

That's from one Mumbai dealer not supplied by TVS or BMW, authorised link should be cheaper.

Re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

Got the bike in first lot from Tusker BMW Bangalore, day before. 25 bikes were delivered together with a small event with some AV presentation, snacks, cake cutting and some encouraging words. post delivery there was a small group ride around cubbon park lead by "Father GS" the mighty 1200.
Have clocked a little over 100 kms and sharing my initial impressions. Yes, sofar i am happy with the bike as its very much inline with my expectations and requirements.

The bike urges you to go off the shoulder of the road, into the rough, even if there is clean space on tarmac. That sums it up i guess 19inch front makes a big difference in attacking speed breakers, potholes. 180mm travel on front and rear with generous ground clearance is confidence inspiring. Ride quality is fairly decent over the rough patches and off the road. Why "fairly decent" is cos i got a change to ride the father gs 1200 for close to 400kms a while back and that is the bike i am bench-marking against. So baby GS fares fairly well off the road, thanks to combination of suspension travel, metz tourance, and GC.

On road the bike feels tall and slightly disconnected, could be the 19" front, the tyre pattern, or the seat height. All this in comparison to versys which is the only bike i have been riding since last 6 months. The seat feels uncomfortable after 45mins, there is not much space to move around. May require some level of customization. Handlebar position is such that the rider has to slightly lean in. I will definitely need a 2" riser as am used to much more upright posture. Rear view mirrors are useless and show almost nothing. With bar risers and mirror extenders, should be ok i am hoping. Horn, as expected is very weak, will require immediate upgrade.

One issue which i faced while riding back from showroom was stalling. If one is not very careful with throttle and clutch input, the bike stalls. margin of error is very less, unlike the versys which had never stalled on me AFAIR. This stalling issue was faced by many others while we were doing a group ride around cubbon park, so not isolated case. last two days, i am mentally cautious to prevent stalling and has worked so far.

overall fit and finish feels good and bike feels well made and solid EXCEPT i dont know what the engineers were smoking when they approved the head light assembly design. The entire assembly shakes madly as if held by rubber band, and creates strobe effect. Very very annoying. All the bike had some amount of shake, some more some less. Mine is on the higher side. Not just me, a lot of international forums have also complained about this issue.

Power: coming from versys, ofcourse the bike feels under-powered, but its adequate to keep one engaged. Starting days, so yet to push the bike, but power was never my main requirement and i am more then happy with what the bike offers. linear and one can easily ride at lower speeds in 2nd and 3rd gear, and need to shift 1st only below 15kmph. Have heard a lot of people complaining on vibrations, but did not find anything alarming. A 300plus cc single pot will induce some vibes and this one is within acceptable limits. True, i haven't really pushed the bike hard to higher rpms, let wait and see how it behaves then. So far, no complains on vibrations. I did not like how the bike starts. its not crisp/sharp. In summary, looks like a very good prospect for Indian riding conditions, be it city or even touring. If the price was bit more accessible, these bikes would fly off the shelf.

Will add more as the kms pile on. Sharing some phone cam pics.

PS. Forgot to add that the light weight of the bike makes so much of a positive difference, esp if one is coming from riding a heavier bike. a BIG plus there.

Great to see with Versys.
I am dreaming of soon making it next to the Tiger.
