So out of the top 10 volume of 1,098,098 vehicles,

Hero manages to sell 567,991
Honda 327,731
Bajaj 137,135

There are many surprises here
1. No place for Suzuki in top 10
2. but TVS XL Super finds itself in top 10
3. Bajaj numbers are quite low in the top 10

Its good to see TVS XL doing well. I feel they should market it up north much more. This 65k odd sales is probably only only south India. It's an excellent vehicle for traders and carries luggage far higher than advertised.

re: Top 10 selling two-wheelers in October 2015

It's good to see that the Hero Maestro is the 2nd best seller to the Honda Activa(scooter segment) which must be due to more features and lesser cost than Activa. Top 10 charts are dominated by Hero and Honda which is not surprising.

Seems like people are buying the more powerful Scooty Zest instead of the underpowered and puny Scooty Pep+ which is a good step I feel.

Surprised to see the Hero Glamour in the Top 10 charts since I don't see many of them here in Mumbai or Pune but they must be selling up north. Though, it has the potential to rise higher since it is basically the bigger brother of the Passion Pro.

Also, there are not many details about the sales of Bajaj Pulsar since there are about 7 variants of the Pulsar and thus it would be better to know which variant sells the most.

The Pulsar 150, not surprisingly.

P.S
Sales data for September 15.

P.P.S
Funny thing, the total sales of the top 10 150 cc bikes in September 2015 is close to 1.25L, which is around half of what the Activa sold in Oct 2015 (2.37L)

Actually, Hero Glamour is a total south market (source: I am a Hero dealer). About 3 southern states account for 80% of Glamour sales in the country, at least that's what we heard one year back. That is why the brand ambassador for Glamour is Allu Arjun. In one way that is good for Hero, but there is also a negative that 125cc production lines are used up for a bike that only sells well in a small number of states instead of being able to get something to compete against CB Shine.

On to the numbers, The launch of Hero Maestro Edge must have helped push it up in Scooters over TVS. Very good response to it in Gujarat at least.

Here are some more details on overall sales and model level details

Manufacturer Level Sales. Hero and Honda lead the pack by a huge margin. Backed by the sales of Splendor and Activa

Notes:
  • Bajaj Struggling a little. Overall drop in sales and several models showing a sharp decline.
  • Huge Growth for the Discover 125 cc but an equally sharp decline for the 150 cc.
  • KTM Duke 200 doing well.
  • Harley showing a decline across most models. Good part is that the max volume contributor HD 750 is doing well
  • Hero Scooters showing massive growth
  • Motorcycles are mixed, newer ones showing big growth
  • Honda doing very well courtesy the Activa, without the Activa, Honda's numbers would be very poor.
  • Mahindra struggling. Across the board drop in sales
  • Royal Enfield seems to be going from strength to strength. Almost every model showing increased sales. Great achievement considering they are not commuter bikes.
  • Access and Gixer doing well for Suzuki
  • Small numbers for Triumph. But still a drop for most models
  • Apache and Jupiter driving volumes for TVS.
  • Fascino from Yamaha making a good start

Re: Top 10 selling two-wheelers in October 2015

1. TVS and Hero are competing hard for the 2nd spot in scooter segment with 61,345 and 65,786 shipments of Jupiter and Maestro respectively. I was under the impression that TVS promotes Wego ahead of Jupiter.

2. What would have prompted Yamaha to reduce the # of shipments of it's best selling scooter "Ray" (8376 units) and ship ~20k copies of newly launched "Fascino" instead? Wouldn't it have been wise of Yamaha to ship more # units of it's best selling scooter especially at the beginning of festive season ?

Re: Top 10 selling two-wheelers in October 2015

1. Surprised to see that Royal Enfield sells more vehicles than Suzuki Motorcycles! Also, Classic 350 outsells other RE models by a huge margin.

2. Activa outselling it's important competitor Maestro by almost 3 times! Not surprising since Activa is a brand Indian people associate with a gearless scooter.

3. Piaggio Vespa is still in the niche segment thanks to it's high pricing and more practical competitors.

4. Hero Karizma sales dropped by 91 percent thanks to better bikes in the same range and also very average looks.

Re: Top 10 selling two-wheelers in October 2015

Another interesting fact is, that horizontally laid out 97cc 4-stroke engine of Splendor, designed way back in mid 80's, and still in production - contributes to total monthly sales of whopping 4,44,000 units (around) per month! (splendor-236k, Passion 96k, HF Delux-107k)

Is it the most successful engine ever in terms of sales and years of production (without any major update)?

A whopping 73% growth in numbers of Royal Enfield! No wonder the stock is doing so good.
