Updated KTM RC390 spotted in India

Last month, KTM unveiled an updated version of the RC 390 motorcycle. Now the bike is reported to have been spotted in India for the first time.

The refreshed RC 390 features redesigned mirrors, a larger front brake disc measuring 320 mm and a full size side mounted aluminium exhaust instead of an underbelly unit, which helps it comply with Euro 4 emission norms. It also gets a slipper clutch, ride by wire technology and adjustable front brake and clutch levers. KTM has also given the bike thicker seat cushion. The bikes brakes are supplied by Brembo.

The updated RC 390 uses the same 373.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid cooled unit as the outgoing model. It makes 43 BHP and 35 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

KTM is expected to manufacture the new RC 390 at the Bajaj plant in Pune. It is expected to be launched in India in 2016. A hike in the price of the motorcycle can be expected as well.

With so many features at such price point makes other manufactured bikes look very overpriced. The entire KTM range has spoiled the Indian consumer giving us the taste of performance and feature packed bikes at such an affordable price.

If a genie grants me a wish: I would wish all the bikes in the world should be produced in India so that we have great bikes at low prices

An already VFM product becomes all the more tempting with some meaningful updates. I am optimistic that the price hike will be pocket friendly too. Seems the company is listening to the customer feedback, which is evident from mirror redesign and probably the exhaust upgrade too (if not for performance or other technical reasons). Almost everybody had his set of issues with mirrors, and many disliked the (funny) sound of an otherwise good looking underbelly exhaust.

The new bellypan design seems to have addressed the issue of edge of the old model's bellypan bottoming out during hard cornering. I appreciate the way KTM makes these small changes. And hopefully, the rumored Ride by Wire system might have sorted out the fuelling issues at lower RPMs.
