Aprilia pulled a rabbit out of a hat at the 2016 Auto Expo as it launched the SR 150 scooter in the Indian market. Pegged by its manufacturer as India’s first “sport-scooterbike”,the Aprilia SR 150 is the second scooter offering from the Italian brand for our market.
Quote:

What makes the Aprilia SR 150 even more interesting is the fact that it will be built in India by its parent company Piaggio. The Aprilia SR 150 will be manufactured at the Baramati production facility of Piaggio and be the first offering from Aprilia to be built in India.

Although Aprilia hasn’t disclosed the exact powertrain specifications, we reckon the SR 150 will be powered by a 150cc SOHC air-cooled four-stroke engine with power and torque to match the best in class. The scooter employs telescopic front forks and monoshock unit at the back to handle suspension duties.
Quote:

The scooter runs on 14-inch dia wheels that get wrapped around with 120/70 section tyres on both the wheels. The Aprilia SR 150 has a fuel tank capacity of 7 litres while seat height is 775mm. Braking is done by 220mm disc brake at front and 140mm drum brake at the rear.

The Aprilia SR 150 is slated to be launched in August 2016.

Good to see more manufacturers setting up base in India, long live competition!

Great product. Now the key question how it will be priced vis-a-vis Vespa / Activa top-end pricing. My guess is 80k INR range. Hope for its sake the premium scooter market now kicks off.

Looks like a Dio. Not sure why these companies unnecessarily charge a premium from us.

While it might look like a Dio, the specs are actually good. Specially the 14-inch wheels coupled with the telescopic suspension will offer better ride quality than all other current scooters in the market. The 150cc engine should give it the much needed grunt for the in-city runs / occasional short highway rides. Paying a premium for this would feel justified at least IMO.

The SR 150 is priced higher even in Australia. A forum user of theirs had commented on the same and had also commented favorably on its ride characteristics & general build quality. It was definitely rated a cut above the run of the mill Jap scoots.
It also seems to be larger / taller than the typical scoot - the forum user mentioned a higher than usual seat height - difficult to use for people of shorter stature. I see the specs mention the seat height in the region of 30 inches. That's definitely a higher than usual seat height..

This is great news for us scooter commuters.clap: It will be a very fast scooter indeed. Good to see 14" and a disc up front.
I was contemplating on the Vespa 150cc but the aprilia(although same engine) will be perfect.
Plastic body means its going to be light.
All we have to see is how they keep up with afer sales service for this.
Dont know about physical presence but at least in pictures this doesn't look like a crowd puller.
So iam guessing it definitely wont sell in large numbers.

What i really like is how they haven't mentioned mileage. Its a sport scooter who cares about mileage anyways.

I own a sort of a sport scooter - Swish 125 and this is going to be my next upgrade.

80k INR is too low. The new 150 cc Vespas are prices around 1 lakh rupees. I'm guessing it'll be around the same price point. Might even be more expensive due to its sporty image and perceived Aprilia brand premium.

Piaggio had displayed the Aprilia SR 150 at the 2016 Auto Expo last month. Now, according to a report by Overdrive, Piaggio has commenced production of the sport-scooterbike at its plant in Baramati, Maharashtra.

The Aprilia SR 150 has a distinct handlebar with integrated turn indicators and the headlight is integrated in the front apron. The scooterbike also gets sporty decals and a split grab rail. Other features include an analogue instrument cluster, a single contoured seat and 14-inch black alloy wheels.

Powering the SR 150 is a 150cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke air-cooled petrol engine that develops 11.4 BHP and 11.5 Nm of torque. Stopping power comes from a 220 mm disc brake at the front and a 140 mm drum brake at the rear. Suspension duties are carried out by a 32 mm hydraulic telescopic fork at the front and a single hydraulic shock absorber at the rear.

The Aprilia SR 150 is scheduled to be launched in India in August 2016.

Hope they announce the pricing soon. Planning to buy it for the missus. It is probably the best in its class right now. Now only if Aprilia released a competitor for the KTM Duke 390.

Guys, any idea when this will be launched? I want to buy an auto scooter and have kept on hold all other options till this launch.

The dials are super out dated. We can in fact see the white sticker pretty apparently. But the scooter looks smart and has a very appealing brand to help get attention and keep it special. Mahindra's Peugeot line-up of scooters might offer some competition when launched, until then Aprilia would have a free run. I am guessing the pricing to be close to 6 digits OTR.

Easily 1lac plus coz Vespa SXL 150 costs around that. If you have a Vespa showroom near your place, do try one.

I expect the price around the same. Any information about launch date?

I am surprised to see no thread on Aprilia SR 150 which is ready for launch by August. The bike is ready for homologation at ARAI. Few undisguised snaps - courtesy automobilians.com

Wow that's some good news. I am eagerly waiting to buy this one. Since nothing was heard of the launch date, today I started looking for other options like Jupiter, Activa and Maestro. Now I will hold on. Thanks for the update.
