Honda CB Unicorn - To be relaunched

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has showcased the Honda CB Unicorn at the Auto Expo 2016 in Greater Noida. The company has announced its intention to relaunch this model owing to customer demand. HMSI sold over 13 lakh units of the Honda Unicorn before it was discontinued. The CB Unicorn, which used to be the company’s best seller in its category, will join the Unicorn 160 and the CB Hornet 160R in the 150-160 cc segment.

The Honda CB Unicorn will be offered with the same specifications as the discontinued model, including features and finer details. It will be powered by the 149.1 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that will be tuned to produce the same 13.14 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 12.84 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The gearbox will be the same five-speed unit. The model will be launched in the coming months by when the price will be announced.

It is a nice decision but not at the same specification IMO. When the competition has gone above the 13PS mark what is Honda doing with this!

Even though I am not happy seeing the specifications but there is no engine + gearbox in this category that is smooth like butter. I have lived with this one for 3 years and 33K kms. At 60 kmph in 5th gear, the bike was super silent and one needed to look at the speedo to realise what speeds it was doing. Same was the situation at 80 kmph!

Miss the Unicorn.

re: Honda CB Unicorn - To be relaunched

Maybe I will finally buy the Unicorn. Missed out the first time and got the Fiero F2 and second time as well (due to waiting period) with the GS150R.

Loved the GS150R but the wish of owning a Honda was never addressed.

Don't care a bit about the power figures as long as they launch the bike as is, like the older version. The latest ones look pretty ugly to my eyes.

And hopefully they will produce enough to sell it to people without having to wait for six months. It is a bike for heaven's sake not a child

Re: Honda CB Unicorn - To be relaunched

Honda CB Unicorn launched at 67,778 ex-Delhi.

"The wacky looking Navi was the main talking point about the Honda Pavilion at the 2016 Auto Expo. But amidst all the buzz generated by the new launches and swanky concepts, the legendary CB Unicorn 150 made a quiet comeback to the market using the Auto Expo as a platform. The 150 version of one of the most revered 150cc motorcycles was taken off the shelves as it got replaced by the Unicorn 160, leaving a vacuum which was felt by almost everyone. The demand for the motorcycle refused to go down, with prospective customers switching brands for not being able to get the 150 Unicorn. Honda has responded to the choice of its customers and brought the legend back. The CB Unicorn 150 has been re-launched with no changes made to the model which was removed from the market. The bike has been priced at INR 67778 ex-showroom Delhi. The engine, transmission, and rest of the mechanicals are untouched. The Unicorn 150 continues to be powered by the time tested 149.1cc single cylinder motor with 13.14hp of power and 12.84 Nm of torque. Transmission is taken care of by a 5-speed unit, while the mono rear setup was one of the first to be utilized on any motorcycle in India. Stylistically too, the Unicorn remains unaltered and carries on with is analogue instrument cluster, 3D Honda logo and 5-spoke black alloy wheels. A wise move or admittance of a strategic error? Do you think the Unicorn 150 was a better motorcycle than the 160 that replaced it? Do share your experiences and views with us."

Re: Honda CB Unicorn - To be relaunched

It was a wrong move by Honda to have downed curtains on the CB 150 in the first place when it was doing very well in the market. Also, the CB 160 was never a runaway success like the CB 150 and its sales were impacted largely because of the CB 150. While it is a good move by Honda to have brought the CB 150 back, they could have done well by beefing it up a little in various segments before the relaunch.

Re: Honda CB Unicorn - To be relaunched

They have been trying to position the Unicorn 160 as THE new Unicorn but customers are not biting. I took one look at it and came away. A couple of mechanic friends told me it has piston slap noise and wait some months for it to be ironed out.

It obviously could not generate the volumes, so they are eating humble pie. Why kill a product that sells as fast as they could make it? Hero Motors is clever with Splendor in that respect. Never disturbed it in nearly two decades and it still brings the volumes.

I visited Lodha Honda today, they confirm the re-launch. They are already accepting bookings (Rs 5000.00) and the waiting period is three months!

Re: Honda CB Unicorn - To be relaunched

I was searching for a suitable commuter 150cc bike for the past 6 months having missed out on buying the Unicorn before it was phased out. And after all the countless reviews online had finalised the CB Hornet. But what a real surprise , Unicorn 150 is back! Also atleast 10k savings purchasing the Unicorn over the Hornet.
