Re: KTM launches MY2016 Duke 200, Duke 390, RC200 & RC390

Brand new 2017 KTM Duke 390 pics. Have to say, it's growing on me. Looks way more sleeker and dare I say, better than the current one. More power, better exhaust note.. Bring it on KTM!

Here's something to help bring your mind on your heart's side . This is advice that I give everyone who is considering a cruiser as against a streetfighter/naked. In emergency situations, weight bias increases stopping distance, forward set footpegs and riding stance hampers maneuverability and control under braking. So essentially the Duke is safer

Aah! the earlier days (read 1970's) were better...no such confusion in choice...
If you were a well built guy with deep pockets you got yourself a BULLET
If you were a bachelor recently into a good job you got yourself an Yezdi (with eye popping options of a classic CL or an oilking...)
And if you wanted a workhorse, low on maintenance without the flashiness you went and booked a Rajdoot with a choice of black or blue colours. Alas! how the foreign culture of biking has ruined our next gen

Re: KTM launches MY2016 Duke 200, Duke 390, RC200 & RC390

An important feature which was announced but I can't see it in the update log- Ride by wire. Any idea why was this omitted? Will this feature come through in 2017 models?

Also- I am so happy to see Bajaj taking the lead and making the product cycles so short in KTM brand. In my opinion, this is the way to go forward in future. Also I wish, 2wheeler giants like Honda, Yamaha, TVS and Hero learn from Bajaj and give us the best technological products possible at a VFM.

P.S. I have my heart set on RC390 and I plan to buy it sometime next year as an addition to my P220, after I pass out from my college and this feature would actually complete the package.

Finally took the plunge today. Booked Duke 200 Orange
Got better price at KTM wakdewadi showroom.

Need help with following queries,
1. When I enquired about always on headlamp, the SA said it's new government rule that all sports bike headlamp should be ON always. Is this true?

2. Will this feature reduce the bulb life?

3. Is there a PDI checklist available for Duke? Can someone please share it.

4. Planning to make the payment using credit card for which they are charging 1.5% extra. AFAIK, credit card transaction fees are waived off.

5. SA also mentioned that prices are expected to increase by 3k in April. Is this true?

Thanks in advance.

Congratulations !

I doubt that. The government hasn't released any formal classification of motorcycles identifying sportbikes. It's likely KTM minimizing supply chain/parts differences for cost reduction. European bikes require it , but is not yet mandatory here. Else even the Pulsars would have always-on headlamps.

2. Will this feature reduce the bulb life?
Yes. But H4 bulbs are easily available and inexpensive (the regular ones).

3. Is there a PDI checklist available for Duke? Can someone please share it.
search within team bhp, there's a PDI checklist available.

4. Planning to make the payment using credit card for which they are charging 1.5% extra. AFAIK, credit card transaction fees are waived off.

Not sure of that.

5. SA also mentioned that prices are expected to increase by 3k in April. Is this true?
Yes, Maharashtra sarkar has announced an increase in road tax/registration fee , from 7% for all bikes to (see below ) , effective 29 March.
0-99cc - 8%
100-299cc - 9%
300+ - 10%

Thanks in advance.
hi , please see my replies in bold quoted above.

Congratulations Mate !

Referring to your query about always ON headlamps, Yes, It's a new rule put forward by the government that the headlamps should always be ON, much like DRLs in cars to ensure safety.

Secondly, there might be some impact on the bulb life, but nothing too significant in my opinion.

Will always on affect the battery of the bike? In Ninjas, the headlamps are always on. Doesn't it affect battery life?

So after many discussions with friends, regarding whether to go for the 200 or 390, i finally set my mind on the 390. The 390 seems more value for money than the 200. Will be getting delivery of the bike tomorrow morning. Heres the price list. No discounts offered at all.

Searched the entire forum but did not find Duke specific or Bike specific PDI checklist. Could you please point to the exact page?

IMO this rule in India is an overkill. But if it's a rule we've to live with it. Its going to be really difficult for me to Not think about always on lights during day time and the minor (read negligible) damage it would make.

Battery life would certainly come down.

Didn't want to go off-topic on the other thread... But have had people saying right here in this thread that all these changes have been updated already... Have you managed to see the latest duke to confirm? I remember seeing a very recent YouTube review which demonstrated most of the visual changes at least.

The only thing that seemed to obviously be missing are the adjustable levers. Sadly they are the best part of the update.

Does the Duke also come with the always on the headlamp or is it only the RC? And I wonder how much better the new seats are.
Yes. The Duke 200 and RC200 both come with the always on, headlight. There is no On/Off switch. There is only a High / Low beam switch and a pass switch on the bikes.
