KTM launches MY2016 Duke 200, Duke 390, RC200 & RC390

KTM launched the updated MY2016 Duke 200, Duke 390, RC200 and RC390. The MY2016 RC390 was recently unveiled at the EICMA with a new exhaust, however, the new exhaust has not been included in the list of changes as of now.

Quote:
The RC 390 will not get the full exhaust system as seen on export models. The current exhaust setup meets the Indian emission norms and there is no need to add more parts to the motorcycle.
The updated price (ex-showroom Navi Mumbai) is as below:

- Duke 200: Rs. 1.40 lakh
- Duke 390: Rs. 1.91 lakh
- RC 200: Rs. 1.65 lakh
- RC 390: Rs. 2.09 lakh

List of changes in the MY2016 range

All models are powered by the same liquid-cooled engines, but feature the following changes:

1. RC 390 gets slipper clutch
2. Duke / RC 200 gets 300mm front disc
3. Disc brake thickness increased on all models
4. Reworked radiator fans
5. Plastic flaps & NOK seal for front fork
6. Modified ECU dampers
7. Vapor recovery system for the fuel tank
8. Reworked front & rear alloy wheels
9. Forged levers on step holder
10. Revised mounting points
11. Reworked frame with M6 tapping
12. Adjustable handlebar levers
13. Different paint quality, although same shade
14. New pillion seat assembly
15. No on / off switch for headlamp
16. New MRF tyres for Duke / RC 200
17. RC models get revised rear view mirror
18. Better cushioned seats

No on / off switch for headlamp is a good welcome! Though ABS for the 200s would've just sealed the deal. Nevertheless, good to see KTM updating the bikes as per international bike standards. Can't wait for their reportedly all new designs for 2017!

Strange that there is no mention of 320mm disc, ride by wire, seat cushion as it was announced in Nov 2016.

Waiting to hear more details around this.

Sorry for double post but took time to research. The newer models lack the 320mm disc, Ride by wire and the new exhaust.

In reality the new RC gets slipper clutch and minor updates in cosmetic level. May not be a great idea to upgrade.

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but what does 'MY' stand for in MY2016?

Also what is the function of an ECU damper? Is it like shock proof enclosure for the ECU?

I'm assuming that it's model year 2016.
Does the Duke also come with the always on headlamp or is it only the RC? And I wonder how much better the new seats are.

Checked with South Mumbai KTM and they confirmed as there are no such updates.

Planning to buy the RC 200 later this year. Good to know KTM is showing interests in Indian market by providing regular updates.
I don't understand why a 25k price difference between the Duke 200 and the RC 200? Can anyone shed some light why this price hike for RC variant?

By simply looking at the pictures you can tell the difference and its potential cost. The lights, fairings and other mods cost more. The fairing alone is probably going to cost that difference. There are actually additional components compared to the naked 200. Hence the cost.

I personally think one is built for race tracks and twisties while the other is an overall perfect blend for both city and highway. RC390 for city riding is a pain. The R3 and R15 make more sense in that aspect. But twisties are the places where RC390 will shine. Even a novice can learn to lean and burn those knees if required.

Planning to upgrade to a KTM from my 6year old Honda Unicorn. Really confused between the Duke 200 and Duke 390. The RC didnt really appeal to me. Need suggestions whether to go for the 200 or the 390.
90% of my usage will be in city. Head says 200, hearts says 390.
Help guys.
PS- My Unicorn still runs like new. It has been trouble free for all these 6years. But now seriously bored of it. And no other suggestions please. Its either one of the dukes, or repainting my Unicorn :P

Re: KTM launches MY2016 Duke 200, Duke 390, RC200 & RC390

Thanks for the info. @VW2010
Agree with you the RC200 is more track friendly than the Duke. Personally am not a fan of naked bikes hence chose the RC over Duke. Fits my budget and also isn't too much power to handle since am an amateur rider so far. Yes the R15 is cheaper compared to the RC 200 and more practical but spending almost a lac and getting just a 150cc bike doesn't make sense.
Besides it's way too common on street nowdays. RC 200 is still rare comparatively.

For city rides, I would have wholeheartedly recommended D200 if it had ABS. It is clearly more fun in cities. But for a mix of city and weekend long rides, D390 is awesome.

D390 also vibrates a bit more than D200 (large single cylinder). I was told that they added rubber mounts to later versions of D390 to reduce the vibrations and they even added a slipper clutch. (I have one of the first D390s which has a lot of vibes)

D200 is a lot more hooligan than D390.

Tough pick! (I'd chose D390 if I were in your place, with ABS alone as the reason)

Duke 200 if most of your riding involves city traffic. 390 heats up a lot, comes with much taller gearing which isn't suited to city riding and will unnecessarily be consuming atleast 50% more fuel while going at the same city traffic speeds. 200 is also more refined since it is running lower compression.

Re: KTM launches MY2016 Duke 200, Duke 390, RC200 & RC390

I am going to confuse you now. I know 200 is the best bet for city riding. It ticks every box for city riding but to me the cost difference , the power and overall package made me choose the 390. I am talking about the first batch ever. Yet I rode over 7500kms in like 4 months in city. And every time I rode the bike it was absolute fun.

It's like 350cc bull and 500 cc. Once you ride a 500 you never want to own a 350

Similarly I have no second thought what I want in april. It will be the 390. I am even motivated to pick the rc390 even if it's city riding.

My choice would be 390 and skip 200. If 200 just get an used one, thrash it and sell it if you want a taste of 200
