Can somebody clarify if Panniers / side boxes on motorcycles be considered as modifications ? I think there was a clarification some where that accessories that contribute to journey comfort won't be treated as modifications.

Just think about this - Motorcycle panniers, in terms of safety and ergonomics are better than back packs or bags hanged on to the handle bar or the sides of the motorcycle.

Well came across this news.

Although this was always known, following an opposing judgment by a divisional bench in Kerala, the Supreme Court has clarified that the law does not permit any type of modification that alters any specification made by the manufacturer or to what is mentioned on the vehicle registration certificate. In its statement the Apex court said that it wanted known as the clear intent of the court that a vehicle cannot be altered so as to be exclusive of the particulars contained within a certificate of registration or are at a variation with the original specifications provided by the vehicle manufacturer

What happens to the tuning boxes and remaps on cars as well?

Interesting.

Taken in its fullest context this statement makes it against the law to repaint your motorcycle in any color other than the one it was originally painted.
After all, the paint color is one of the "original specifications" used in creating the machine.

Supreme Court bans vehicle modifications.

The Supreme Court, setting aside a verdict by Kerala high court in January, ruled against the illegal vehicle modifications in the country. According to the verdict, no vehicle can be altered to change the original specification made by the manufacturer.

In the last 3 to 4 days, I notice that there is a flurry of Harley Davidson for sale in olx, Kerala.About 10 bikes for sale,all variants. What could be the reason? Is it because he RTO is getting strict on modified vehicles or some other reason.

Since the checking got tight I bid adieu to my luggage racks and extended visor, keeping the Discover handle though, else she'd be back to being the 'Garage Queen'.





And grab rail would be from Discover as well, not a fan of split rails.
