AJ, true that. I've been following her and Basant diaries. Her videos are extremely pleasing to watch, simple, and lovely footages. Her Iran episode where it titled Basanti Broke Down was a treat to watch.

Cheers!

re: The 1st-gen Royal Enfield Himalayan thread!

As I recall, the reason for the break down was the clutch plates wore out.

That was not the fault of the Himalayan.

She had someone install handlebar risers to make the motorcycle fit her better and when they did, they did not install a new, longer clutch cable to match the longer distance between the clutch lever and the engine.

This resulted in her riding thousands of kilometers with the clutch never fully releasing, so any time the engine was under a heavy load, the clutch plates would slip.

Under these conditions, I'm surprised the clutch plates lasted as long as they did.

re: The 1st-gen Royal Enfield Himalayan thread!

The unforgiving Bangalore summer is making it incredibly hard to ride the Himalayan in peak traffic. Of late, I've observed that the temperature gauge frequently shoots up above 40 degrees. The gear shifts also become clunkier than usual when this happens. Anyone else facing the same issue?!

Brother, I ride my bike in Hyderabad. Usually leave for office around 11:00 AM or so.
The temperature reading is almost always over the 49C mark.

Gears are a pain. But I don't really encounter a lot of traffic.
As long as I am not stuck in the one traffic light I encounter on my 18 kilometers trip to office, I have no complaints.

Lol!! It’s cute when folks from Bangalore complain about the summer heat. They might need regular ice baths in Delhi

The temperature shown by the Himalayan is closer to what the engine temperature is. The sensor is right next to the engine / exhaust IIRC

40 degrees at the engine/ exhaust vs 43 degrees ambient temperature here in Delhi today. I would love me some Bangalore summer

The gear box is such a downer. At low speeds, the 2nd gear just cannot be used without slipping the clutch. Always having to downshift is a pain.

37-38 degrees is becoming the norm in Bangalore. This was unheard of say 5-6 years ago. The lack of humidity, the high vehicular traffic & the concrete structures all around make it seem much hotter than it actually is.

All is well as long as you know that there's more wear and tear happening when you slip the clutch in 2nd than redline the motorcyle in 1st.

The 1st-gen Royal Enfield Himalayan thread!-img_20190503_1826409192.jpg

A kilometer or two around Charminar and the bike breached 53C on the console.

The gears become quite unresponsive and the heat is very uncomfortable.

So I parked at a near by hotel and while waiting for the bike to cool had some Falooda for myself.

This bike is not meant for traffic and summer.

A couple of things to mention on heat and temperature.
Have you repositioned your temperature probe from below the seat to somewhere cooler? This will help get true air temperature reading. Check on advrider.com to see what other people have done.

It seems that the oil viscosity is dropping significantly due to the weather and usage conditions. That is the reason why gear shifts are harder. Have you checked that the oil cooler is clean? Have you tried a full-synthetic oil? It's funny how some oils seem to suit some bikes more than others ...

I would switch to 20w50 fully synthetic liquimoly pronto if not done already.

re: The 1st-gen Royal Enfield Himalayan thread!

Has anyone tried these hand guards from RE https://www.royalenfield.com/in/en/h...talog/1990211/

Went to the dealer yesterday to get it on my himalayan but the mechanic could just not get them in place. Then he mentioned these are for the normal himalayan handlebars and not the braced one which comes on the sleet

https://www.royalenfield.com/in/en/h...talog/1990206/

I don't know what to believe. Any other recommendations from folks for knuckle guards for the himalayan?

Checked multiple showrooms in Hyderabad. Not available anywhere.

All they have are those T Shirts and boots.

Can you not order them from the online store?

They don't even give that option. But since I went back to their website, I filled up the enquiry form.

Let me wait and see.

My next long ride would most likely be towards Chennai, so was thinking will check it there.
