Yes it is good while it lasts; its not even slow, but a very faster effective method forcing the engine to commit suicide! Check your old air filter box to see how much of dirt was prevented getting inside the cylinder; that serves the proof as how much dirt will your engine absorb without the air filter box

I have removed just the cover, not the entire box. There wasn't any dirt on it too. The air filter is still functional. I may cover it again in a couple of days. Though the sound is good, I miss the refinement.

I also read through a lot of CBR250R forums where the owners have reported normal functioning of the engine with the cover removed, for many years at a stretch. Still, I may remove it on tuesday.

I have removed and reinstalled that airbox numerous times on my CBR. Sounds sweet between 4000-6000rpm. Just like you, I always start to miss the silent refined sound of stock setup, so i always have to reinstall it after enjoying that sound for 200-400kms. Apart from airfilter getting dirty and needing replacement after 8000kms, i haven't faced any issue so far.

The dangers of riding without the air filter cover in place depend totally on the design of the engine intake.

Designs which require the air to pass thru the filter before entering the intake duct can be ridden without the cover in place.
With these designs, the actual passage for the air cannot be seen if the air filter is in place.

For instance, my Honda 400F, four cylinder cafe racer placed the air filter directly over the mouth of the duct that fed the carburetors their air.
The air filter box that the actual filter was in and its cover served only to protect the filter from water and to quiet the noise.

The Royal Enfield UCE's on the other hand, draw their air directly from the inside of the air filter housing that surrounds the air filter cartridge.
The airflow with this design uses an inlet that feeds directly into the inside of the filter. The air passes thru the filter into the inside of the air filter housing and then, into the engine inlet.
With this design, if the engine is run with the housing cover removed, the engine will breath dirty air directly from the surroundings and the actual air filter will be totally bypassed.

Because different motorcycles use different designs, I suggest a total understanding of how the system works is required before running the bike with the cover removed.

Brakes

The front brake is ok. The rear brake is horrible. Mine is a non ABS model. If you are someone not used to applying engine braking, and rely solely on the twin brakes, you need to be very careful with the bike. I am not sure if it is my bike or CBR250R in general. But both disc pads are new.

Good ownership review. I myself looking forward to buy CBR250R. After reading your review I feel that I shall opt for ABS version? What would be your suggestion. Its extra 25k burdon. whats your take?

If you are tight on budget, the non-ABS is completely safe if you have experience riding motorcycles on gravel, wet surfaces and at high speeds before. IMO, I felt I dont need an ABS as I have had a few panic braking incidents on my 24BHP pulsar 200NS at highway speeds. It was easily manageable, so I thought getting the 26BHP CBR to a stop during emergency/ on gravel/ on wet surfaces wouldnt be a problem. Stock Contigo tyres are useless. Braking and grip improves a lot with better tyres.

But, if your budget allows you, please go for the C-ABS version. We never know when our skills would be inadequate to save ourselves from a crash. 30k bucks for better safety isnt a lot, at all!

Update: 40000km done!

The CBR250R is being used only for the gym runs. An average of 1000km a month clocked since I bought her in Feb'16. She still runs like a dream! I have an itch for an upgrade though. Let's see what Akula has in store.

Today being Eid holiday, I finally made my mind to let go of the 3 four-wheelers of my home and take the CBR250R for a ride.

I along with a friend of mine decided that we ride to a nearby historic fort and a famous temple which would be a 220km round trip.

My friend came in his Honda Unicorn 150, which meant I cant cruise above 95 kmph if I have to ride along. The Thirumayam fort was built in 16th century AD. We then rode to Kunrathur Murugan temple through Nemam. That road was a delight with a dozen twisties.

if you want to drive longer distances check Versys 650. Recently, I got a chance to test drive it. It has much better driving comfort than CBR. However, Its costs = 4 CBRs http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif

A bad day for the cbr's rear tyre. A big 3 inch nail punctured the tyre.
