re: My Pre-Worshipped Honda CBR250R. EDIT: Now Sold

I was on the verge of selling my CBR and upgrading to a KTM RC390 until I happened to ride both Yamaha YZF R3 and RC390.

It was a revelation of sorts. I expected both of them to be way faster than CBR like their numbers suggest. Surprisingly, the step up was not substantially felt. I understood that the next logical upgrade has to be a mid size 650, which I can't afford as of now.
R3's refinement and comfort came in as a surprise. It felt exactly like a more powerful CBR250R.
RC390 had sharper power delivery and handling, but it looked too small on me, and the vibrations were ugly. Coming from a Honda and R3, RC390 felt too unrefined.

Hence, decided to hold on to the CBR250R for some more time.

re: My Pre-Worshipped Honda CBR250R. EDIT: Now Sold

Fuelled up and ready. CBR250R has been parked idly for months together, except for the morning gym runs.

I have decided to swap my daily driver Ciaz with CBR. Been three days, and already 400 km done on the Honda.

I am loving it!

Odo: 40,930 km

Some pics

Need to change helmet. This gliders one has been with me for too long (6 years to be precise). Confused between LS2 & MT Revenge. Heard LS2 is good.

re: My Pre-Worshipped Honda CBR250R. EDIT: Now Sold

I was heartbroken to realise that I have neglected this beautiful piece of engineering until last week. The past week has seen 700 km of running. But i found time only this evening to check the chain. It was pathetic, dusty, mucky and dry.

Took me 2 hours to clean it and lube it. Bought 3M chain clean spray and Lube spray.

Post clean and lube, checked the free play and the recommended 1 inch free play was there.

Following this thread from day 1, I wish you get the scratches corrected on the exhaust. That spoils the beauty IMO

Hahaha! I have decided to spend more time with the bike. Been 1000 km in the last 8 days with the CBR250R
Yes, a 1000 bucks breakfast lol. But it was a refreshing change from the usual hectic schedule.

The exhaust cover, almost a dozen friends have told me. I have kept it as a Drishti But yes, it spoils the looks. I will have to find a new cover online.

It was a solo ride bro.

re: My Pre-Worshipped Honda CBR250R. EDIT: Now Sold

A detailed report of today's ride:

It takes one good motorcycle to make you ride till you die, and one wrong motorcycle to push you into mediocrity of comfort, shade and 4 wheels

I was always fond of motorcycles and munching miles on them. While I was in my college, motorycle was my primary mode of transportation, like any other middle-class college going leech that put up impractical himalayan(not the bike lol)demands on his dad.

I had kind parents who bought me some forgettable bikes (Bullet 350), some bum shattering bikes (Pulsar 200 NS, which I bought with my money, hence the value for money crap spoilt my choice to a bajaj) and some really comfortable bikes with bullet proof engines (Karizma R, Karizma ZMR)

So, long story short, I rode to my hometown from Chennai (320km) 2 times a month on my karizmas. I loved it, every bit of it.

Enter 2013, I bought the Pulsar 200NS, purely because of its terrific BHP/lakh ratio. I did NOT enjoy riding it on distances that were longer than my legs ( not really, above 100 km perhaps)

It was like Bharnab Baswami and Gabul Boondhi interview. I was Bharnab and the 200 NS used to be Gabul.

I begged and pleaded "Why cant you be comfortable?"

It replied everytime "24 BHP bro, I just did 0-100 within 9 seconds
"

I again asked "Please be specific, my bottom's screaming for relief, why cant you be comfortable"

It again replied "I have 24 BHP, and I have 3 sparkplugs, and give you 40 kmpl"

By the time I realised Gabul and Pulsar 200 NS were not to be blamed for their replies, heck, they were made so. It was not their mistake. I had the 200 NS posted on olx, and it went within 3 days.

The odo embarrassingly read 9000 km in 3 years, while all my past bikes were 40000 km run in the same period.

It was that one wrong motorcycle, I forgot long rides, and even started to take my car for small chores like going to my backyard to water the garden (or to be factual,- to the near by shops).

I eventually bought the CBR250R, and all this useless introduction, history and stupidity have been presented to you at the start of this thread.

But then why am I writing this instead of eating hot biriyani and jamuns in a pleasant cold sunday evening? Just to explain how one wrong motorcycle made me almost sell of one properly suitable motorcycle.

read on...

re: My Pre-Worshipped Honda CBR250R. EDIT: Now Sold

Initial ownership- Feb 2016 to Mid-Nov 2016

I used the cbr for gym runs only, except a 212 km ride to Thirumayam fort from Trichy. I was happy about that ride. But I felt that the gym runs felt just like how it used to be on my 200NS. True that CBR was faster but I couldnot feel it inside the city. I thought I needed a bigger capacity motorcycle, and test rode 2 motorcycles, 320 cc Yamaha R3 and 390cc KTM RC 390. And it was quite a surprise as both those bikes did not feel any faster than the CBR250R. (Read the first post in this page for that boring piece of detail)

I realised one fact. Using CBR 250R for gym runs/milk shop runs/ escape-wife's-beatings runs was like paying Gordon Ramsay to come to your kitchen and make you masala dosa.

You know you wont enjoy that masala dosa, like you would enjoy the dosa made by lungi-clad, sweaty, hairy, smelly unhygienic road-side dhaba wala. Now if you think Gordon Ramsay is not better than dhaba-wala guy, the problem is with you.The problem was with me. I never used the CBR for what it was intended to do,- touring/munching miles.

Decision - To retain the CBR 250R until I feel I have experienced every bit of it, before I buy something bigger. And to go for rides every week,or once every fortnight.

Meanwhile, I also started taking the CBR to my work (90km a day avg) and have covered 1000 km in last 8 days.

Even though I have been riding all week for work, i wanted to go for a longer ride, something ranging from 200-300km to and fro. So I started shortlisting destinations.

Trichy - Yercaud: 350 km round trip

Trichy - Pondicherry: 400 km round trip

Trichy - Kolli hills: 230 km round trip

Trichy - Vailankanni: 300 km round trip

Until this morning 1:00 am, I couldnt sleep due to confusion about routes (kolli hills) and about distances. Anyways, I slept and got up with the same confusion.

And then, that hard-hitting voice of my psyche shouted at me "Heck, its about the ride, not the destination, get the hell out and ride somewhere, have some nice coffee on the way

"coffee", that mesmerising word got me thinking. Why shouldnt I go have some coffee at Adyar Ananda Bhavan (their coffee is wonderful) at Ulundurpet (130km from my home). It is on the smooth, flawless NH45. I started!

re: My Pre-Worshipped Honda CBR250R. EDIT: Now Sold

I've been following your thread for quite a while now(even before I joined Team BHP) since I was interested in restoring a used CBR 250R. Of course, now I haven't an interest in buying a used CBR, but I still follow your thread for the occasional update. I don't know if you plan on keeping the Honda, and I am not sure about the price for a chain sprocket set for the CBR(assuming it's around the same 2k that Honda usually prices these at), but have you considered investing in a Scottoiler system for auto chain lubing? It's supposed to be a real hoot to use and personally I consider it to be a worthwhile investment as you can keep it even if you're selling your bike off. Seeing as you might be investing in a 650 in the near future, it would make a great addition to your ride even now. Would love to hear your thoughts on the same.

@Madhav Thanks for the suggestion. This is the first time I hear about scottoiler system. I will check if it is economically viable for me.

Update:

Cleaned and polished the CBR. Found two wear and tear parts that need to be replaced.

1. Front disc pads
2. Front RHS footrest

The front brake master cylinder also needs to be replaced. Looks bad.

re: My Pre-Worshipped Honda CBR250R. EDIT: Now Sold

Phew!! One of those instances when I regret buying the CBR250R is when I need spare parts.

An essential item like the disk pad was not available at both authorised Honda dealers. Imagine how I would find the foot peg!

I had to search a dozen shops for brake pads until i luckily found it in another honda dealer. Coated around 900 bucks. Foot peg was impossible to source, so I bought CBZ Extreme's RHS front foot peg, and it fit well.

Old disk pads were completely worn out!

Damn! 4 hours of my time! But happy that my darling is pristine again!! Don't buy a CBR250R if you don't have the "never give up" attitude

While changing the brake pads, it is advisable to clean the caliper pistons too. It is quite a laborious work, but do have it done by a mechanic.
