Can you please confirm if this is actually true or share the finer details if not?
See i have been using fully synthetic oils from the 1st service of my Cbr.
However my regular service cost never went beyond 1000 apart from engine oil.
And moreover i have seen ktm and Bajaj is not that reliable.
And service cost for Honda is also not that much higher than ktm

That is true. The service bill is around Rs. 3000. I service it around 4000 kms as my usage is very less nowadays.

re: My Pre-Worshipped Honda CBR250R. EDIT: Now Sold

Terminal update of this thread. My Honda CBR 250R is sold!!

Bought last february for 75k, sold this this March for 65k after 13 months and 13000 km of usage. Not bad I would say.

I just got my new sweetheart, for which I am penning down ownership review.

CBR 250R was a lovely machine, probably the second best of all motorcycles i owned, and the closest to my heart.

Thank you CBR! I love ya!

I still think the CBR will do better touring than the KTM 390 for multiple reasons including better top speed, better cornering due to difference in type itself, calmer city riding, better two seater, longer range and most importantly reliable Honda vs not so reliable KTM?

Only time will tell if you made a mistake or actually did the right thing.

Ha Vivek! Besides the fact that you are pulling my fat legs here, lets call a spade,a spade

Better top speed? No
Better cornering? No (i ve got used to the position)
Calmer city ride? Calm is for old men

Better two seater? Always solo riding
Longer range? I dont intend to be Leh conqueror
Reliability? Come on, i atleast get spares for ktm, only cbr owners know how hard it is.
PS: I have made a wonderful decision, and KTMs are as reliable as any honda.

re: My Pre-Worshipped Honda CBR250R. EDIT: Now Sold

Anything that works for you Prassanna. I did own the 390 and though parts are cheap they are not super reliable for abuse that we put these bikes through.

The gasket is a known problem, the ever so spongy brakes are not confidence inspiring once it ages, and there are hardly any bikes that lasted time (my guess the bikes usually are totalled before they hit 50k kms). Jokes apart, i hope time tells you that ktm are as reliable as any other brand. My concern areas are brakes, alloys, gasket, fuel filter, fuel pump, sprocket (which i guess is same for all bikes).

To me the CBR was the perfect jump from any 150 cc or even the dull, slow running unreliable royal enfields(which i own again). KTM came with refreshing performance but i am still not convinced on long runs and tours you will not miss the CBR.

To me CBR is the current used markets best affordable performance bike. Waiting for your thread on KTM to start a fight. Wink Wink!!!!

I haven't had any spares unavailability in 6 years of ownership. Ofcourse I'd give my Service advisor a week's notice before I bring the motorcycle for service and any part replacement. The service advisor contacts all the other service centre nearby and stocks all the parts I need in that week's time so I've been quite fortunate.

Also, when a motorcycle goes out of production, I believe a manufacturer has to supply spares for the next 7 years for existing customers. Don't know if its a law but I did read about it a few year ago.

If I may ask, that what made you arrive at such a conclusion?

Of course, I do agree that the 390 will leave the 250R dead in straights as well as corners.

I honestly didn't have any spares issue for all the 5 years I had the bike with me, the consumable ones at least. Rest were made available in roughly 2 weeks.

Congrats Prasanna.

Looking forward to your ownership report of KTM 390. A comparison with CBR 250 will be very useful. Thanks

re: My Pre-Worshipped Honda CBR250R. EDIT: Now Sold

Prasanna, congrats on the new acquisition. In my 35k kms of ownership, duke 390 has been very unreliable. It has always left me stranded whenever I take my bike out. Every time I hit the highway, tires get punctured, engine had fallen from the bike more than thrice, once even the piston came out and hit a fellow biker, luckily he survived since the piston is of low quality. The list goes on but KTM covered everything under warranty! I'm thinking of going back to cbr 250r. Your views would be appreciated.

Nearly 6 years of ownership, there was one instance when I couldn't get hold of stock chain sprocket in Sep 2011, hardly 3 months since I bought CPR & the bike had run 11K & sprockets worn out very bad. Today I can manage almost any part in about 10 days. Depends very badly ONLY on the dealer & not with HMSI

Sorry for being
Is that specific to your bike or a common issue with KTM (or a batch) This is the first time I'm reading about engine falling from a bike, that too for 3 times.

This simply means you need to get to the highway from your house through a different route. Cant blame the KTM there man. But the piston part is scary. I hope KTM is helping you with some diagnosis. I hope you didn't mean in literal sense as its impossible for the engine to fall out. Only technical reason could be unreasonable compression getting created inside the chamber due to say incorrect ecu mapping.

Are you using power tronics as they have caused some headaches including valve re positioning and what not.

I love the KTM by the way for its the best fun that can fit my pocket.
