Yamaha India sets up second R&D facility, invests Rs. 66 crore Yamaha Motor Research & Development India Pvt. Ltd. (YMRI) has established their second R&D Centre in India. The Centre is located within the premises of Yamaha's plant in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu.
Built with an investment of Rs. 66 crores, the new Yamaha R&D Centre consists of facilities like prototype testing and validation. It also houses a test track that can be used to simulate Indian road conditions, and thus test the motorcycles in-house. The aforementioned investment of Rs. 66 crore is a part of the Rs. 1,500 crore investment that Yamaha has already committed under the Government's ‘Make in India’ initiative by 2018.
Talking about this new R&D centre, Mr. Yasuo Ishihara, MD of YMRI, said that the Chennai centre would work in association with the existing Surajpur Centre, in order to develop models for India, as well as the global markets.
Yamaha had established YMRI in February 2013 to take care of the R&D needs of its Indian arm. The YMRI is Yamaha Motor Group's fifth overseas R&D headquarters, after Italy, Taiwan, China and Thailand. Link to Team-BHP News
