Team-BHP - YO bikes - The ECO-fiendly bikes !

was just looking around for some info on the YO Bikes. Guess we have seen the adverts all over TV. This and thisis what I found while googling.

Costing about 13000 bucks , what do you guys think ? Will this work ? Or will it die another slow death like all other attempts of launching Alternate fuel cars/bikes?

Any one has some more info ? Dealers ?

They had Yo Bikes in different capacity. The starting one was more like bycycle with some add on power. It had pedals in case traction generated by electic motor is not good enough; for example at a gradiant. It's range if I'm not wrong was about 80 K with one charge. Max speed is 40 KM per hour and pickup is not great but acceptable for the economy you get, besides pride of driving eco-friendly vehicle. I like the concept and I think, this concept can find some takers but would take a little time to come to mainstream (as would be forced by rising automotive fuel cost). I've been informed by the same dealership that they are coming up with electric bikes with size matching to that of Honda Activa and comparable power. I'll check it out again when I visit them next time.

PS: As long as I foresee, electric vehicle would lag their combustion engine counterpart in terms of row traction power due to battery limitation and inflexibility due to limited range. As of now, this concept had been successfully used in FORK LIFT vehicles in heavy industry. Since this machines need to lift heavy component, it's base need to be heavy which a series of heavy battery modules ensures while supplying energy electic motors.

I have seen several YO bikes being used around in Pune, mostly by females(I guess men are not as inclined to be eco-friendly).It goes around 70-80 Kms on a full charge. Not sure how its to be recharged, but I think it will mostly involve pulling out the battery and plugging it in your home. Top speed is around 35kmph.
