Vespa 946 Emporio Armani edition. Now launched at a whopping Rs. 12.04 lakhs

Piaggio India will be launching the Vespa 946 Emporio Armani and the Vespa 70th Anniversary Edition on October 25, 2016. The launch event will take place in Pune, Maharashtra.

The Vespa 946 Emporio Armani was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. Piaggio developed the scooter by taking inputs from Giorgio Armani, the Italian fashion house. It was introduced to mark the 130th birthday of the Piaggio Group and the 40th anniversary of the Giorgio Armani foundation. It is based on the Vespa 946 scooter and features an exclusive body paint scheme. Powering the scooter is a 125 cc, single-cylinder engine that churns out 11.3 BHP.

The Vespa 70th Anniversary Edition range was launched to celebrate the 70th Birthday of the Vespa brand. Under this range, the Vespa scooters will be available in two paint schemes - Azzurro 70 and Grigio 70; the first is a combination of silver & blue, while the second is a mixture of silver & grey. The scooter also gets grey wheels, dark coloured, leather wrapped seats, and a chromed rack at the rear that holds a dark coloured bag.

Im curious why doesn't the article mention that this scooter has an MSRP of $10,000 in the USA and will probably cost around 8lac INR. Only 3600 of these scooters will be made.

Wow, why are most of the new launches chipping away more and more at the humble pillion seat?

That is the coolest looking scooter I have ever seen. For once, I am least bothered about how much power there is or what it is like to ride. I am sold on the design alone. The design is further accentuated by the color and attention to detail.

When encountering 'virtual' options such as the gorgeously authentic yet hedonistic, etc etc, Vespa 946 one, is compelled to, once again URGE the Indian central government to hurry up and sign that pending and imo pretty good deal of a FreeTradeAgreement with the European Union. I for one would pay plenty for this shapely, singular piece of engineering art, but NOT 8 lakhs! At least reduce tariffs on ckd kits, or most components from the EU. This scooter has traction control, and aluminium panels, abs, fi, etc etc: it would if 'made' (or assembled) in India still be in a whole other price league, not affecting the (imo by-now gratuitous) 'protection' the current Indian market strong incumbents enjoy.

Re: Vespa 946 Emporio Armani, 70th Anniversary Edition launch on 25th October 2016

It is not a scooter, it is Style Statement

Some featuures that are special to this scooter
  • ASR (Traction control)
  • Two-channel ABS braking system
  • 220 mm double disc brakes
  • Full-LED projector headlamps
  • Full-LED indicator lights
  • LCD instrument panel
  • Leather wrapped handlebar
  • Satin finish to the metal parts is produced using galvanic treatments
Some more Special and purely cosmetic things
  • The words ‘Emporio Armani’ appear on the side
  • The eagle logo of the brand is placed above the headlight.

One sentence quoted below from the 946's brochure is worth taking note
Quote:
Given the delicacy and originality of the matt paint of the Vespa 946 Emporio Armani,
owners are advised to follow all the suggestions in the user handbook
when washing and looking after the vehicle.
Below are some photos that I took from the international official website of the 946

Droolworthy design! Great example of re-interpreting a classic design. Its amazing how the original, timeless design cues have been imbued into this technically accomplished scooter. See this side by side comparison of the original 1946 Vespa and the Vespa 946 EA.

The 70th Anniversary Edition models are also good looking. Any information on expected pricing in India?

Priced at a whopping Rs 12.04 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune) the Vespa 946 Emporio Armani has been styled with inputs from Giorgio Armani, the famed Italian fashion house. It commemorates the 40th anniversary of Georgio Armani and the 130th anniversary of the Piaggio Group. Re: Vespa 946 Emporio Armani edition launched at a whopping Rs 12.04 lakhs ex-showroom Pune

Probably should start a business of converting normal Vespa 150cc scooters to these super 150cc scooters for an additional lakh. Still can sell some units considering it would cost 10 lakhs lesser, while being identical. Dont see many changes other than body work anyways!

12.04 lakhs for a 150cc scooter, no matter how stylish it looks is -

Whoa! 12 lakhs Ex showroom will mean that the OTR will easily be 13+ in Bangalore. It is exclusive and beautiful alright, but this is atrocious pricing.
First it was VW with the GTI and now Vespa with the 946. I would like to say one thing to them - "All the best with your Halo products"

However The 70th anniversary special edition is beautiful and worth the money IMO. Any idea if this special edition comes in other colours too?

Bikes costing INR 12 lakh plus have some value. I don't know what value a scooter will provide.

A guy who has an 8 figure bank balance will buy himself a 1000+ cc bike and his s/o a Merc CLA/Mini Cooper or similar.

Only way they can sell the scooter: move the decimal point leftward.

Re: Vespa 946 Emporio Armani edition launched at a whopping Rs 12.04 lakhs ex-showroom Pune

Gents, let me first digest the headlines... Hmmm. OK
The price may seem exorbitant, even crazy to some, OK make that a majority of us. But and that's a BIG BUT, this is supposed to be for the stylists, the fashion conscious who wouldn't mind paying a million quid for say a suit or buy that Mini Cooper for runs to the market.
In Fashion & Luxury markets, goods cannot be cheap. They have to be priced higher to maintain exclusivity. Remember the Fiat 500, came with the same 1.3 Diesel engine but the cost was crazy! Yet people bought it, same story with the Beetle.
Even if Vespa sell 20 of these their job is done. India still has a lot of billionaires who will splurge on such things. Imagine your daughter on this scooter going to college! She will be the biggest talk of the town.

These are my personal views and I am neither rich nor famous enough to own such luxury items. If you don't agree with my views, please don't start a verbal bashing.
