re: Mahindra is bringing Jawa back. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 1.55 lakh

I don't know what to make of this Tweet:
Mahindra is bringing Jawa back. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 1.55 lakh-roads.jpg

The Website is active, are we nearing the launch date? Or is it just a strategy to create some hype?

The site is revamped from what was existing; same old bikes from Monarch to CLII to Classic to Deluxe to Roadking, but more in the form of sketches; tech spec remains the same, 2 stroke, 250cc, carb'd engine.

But the site looks beautiful

Maybe the Owners of Yezdi want Mahindra to buy the rights to the "Yezdi" brand as well.

I believe Mahindra will do that. Because, without the Yezdi name, the Jawa brand will not be complete in India. Yezdi name is the more popular name in India rather than Jawa. Because, starting from 1960, the latter had a production run of around 14 years only whereas Yezdi named motorcycles continued to survive until 1996.

Great the site is back with all the detailed info regarding the adventures undertaken on the bikes by Satish + Arun + staley sir along with Mr.Mane ...

I think it will create some Hysteria in the biking community and will help in building connect with the brand among youngsters..

Regards,
Ranjit

re: Mahindra is bringing Jawa back. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 1.55 lakh

the site says Copyright boman irani -
Googling for that name brings up
https://indiankanoon.org/doc/45433121/

Quote:
  • the plaintiff as of today also owns a website dedicated to the brand 'YEZDI' being www.yezdi.com which continues to advertise and promote the 'YEZDI' brand in India since 1998;
  • the plaintiff is in the process of reviving manufacturing of the motorcycles under the brand 'YEZDI';
  • the Official Liquidator, in the proceedings for winding up of IJIPL, has staked a claim to the trademark 'YEZDI';
  • IJIPL has also not used the trademark 'YEZDI' in respect of any goods since the year 1996 and has abandoned the trademark registrations
etc etc, so the ownership of the yezdi name in india might be a bit complicated :/

Yezdi revived! Mahindra launches website!

Looks like a dream come true moment for most of us! Mahindra revives the Yezdi brand with a dedicated website

http://yezdi.com/

More info - https://www.motoroids.com/news/mahin...tting-revived/

Off topic - Wonder why I see Boman Irani at the bottom of the page??

Re: Yezdi revived! Mahindra launches website!

I am a Yezdi fan and would love to see the brand make a comeback. However, I am not sure whether Mahindra has any plans to revive it. Besides, do I not think this site is put up by Mahindra. It's probably just some enthusiasts. Mahindra would have definitely mentioned their name somewhere with a copyright disclaimer.

Also note, none of the big publications have mentioned anything about this "revival". Just a couple of websites. This is a giveaway!

Anand Mahindra had tweeted a link to the site, which made things a bit confusing about mahindra's plans

Re: Yezdi revived! Mahindra launches website!

I believe a firm called Classic Legends Pvt Ltd is the owner of Yezdi marque and recently Mahindra aquired 60% stake in that brand. Untimately it belongs to Mahindra I guess.

The domain is registered in his name so he probably owns the marque. He may have sold a stake in it to the Mahindras

Re: Yezdi revived! Mahindra launches website!

I really like the website design especially this page where it contains the old Yezdis in art form instead of photos:

http://yezdi.com/motorcycles

--------------
OT

Are these computer generated images or hand drawn and digitized ?

Also the page contains some 'patches' in the background and they are stationary while scrolling. I thought my monitor was dirty and I tried to clean it.

Re: Yezdi revived! Mahindra launches website!

In the current context, I wonder what would be the right positioning for a bike carrying the Yezdi name ? Would it be a cruiser or a street bike ? What elements of this classic would people want to see in the modern avatar to be able to relate to its brand ?

Let me also add

1. How would a 4 Stroke Yezdi appeal to guys who actually knew the 2 Stroke Orginal Yezdis

2. Just using a once popular brand name is no guarantee of commercial success. It's the PRODUCT that is more important.

3. Guys who actually know Yezdi's are mostly born before the mid 80's.

4. The ones born post mid 80's would go "HUH?? WHAT??" when shown the Yezdi brand name.
