If its a power cruiser, I am interested in what rpms it sits at at top gear doing 100 kmph.

Payeng sir, was their any mention of this? I ask, because the NS was not the most relaxed cruiser on the highway whereas D390 with its ultra long 6th gear seems relaxed. I want to know whether the 6th gear ratio of this bike is also similarly long or not.

Umm... I recently did a Delhi-Goa-Delhi trip on my stock Classic Chrome 500 (Only changed the rims & tyres). The group consisted of almost all bikes from current RE stable (350s/500s/EFIs/carbs/Himalayan/GT/Machismo535 etc.). We cruised 600+ kms daily & nobody had anything to complain as long as comfort is concerned. The other issues we faced with the bikes were a couple of fuse blowouts & chain lock giving up on one of them.

It wasn't spoken about specifically, but the Max Torque of 35 Nm is rated at a RPM of 6000 which is not quite high.

If I remember correctly my 2007 P220 DTS-Fi used to do 100 Kmph at around 4000 rpm in top (5th) gear. A lot depends on the gearing and we can assume the gearing on this baby power cruiser to be long and relaxed.

Therefore its safe to assume that 100 KMPH should be around 4000 rpm at 6th gear.

Typo perhaps??

A stock 220 Fi does 100 at approximately 7200 RPM, mine with taller gearing was still doing 100 at 6800RPM.

At 4000RPM its does approximately 57 kmph.

EDIT: Does anyone know when do the deliveries of the bike start?

Not accurate. Bajaj site says 320mm front disc. Also the price is of the base version without ABS.

That is impossible!

The better spec'd 200 NS did 100kmph somewhere near 7000rpm (6500-7000) IIRC. For instance, my CBR250R does 100kmph at 6000rpm in 6th gear.

My guess is that Dominar may do the same,if not at a little earlier rpm band, say, 100 kmph at 5750-6000 rpm.

The 2017 D390 comes with 320mm front disc. D400 should carry over the same setup too.

News report in Business standard reports deliveries start next month. Quoting the news article, Rajiv Bajaj seems to be very cautious in claiming around 5000 per month as volume.

Exports expected to start in February 2017.

re: Bajaj launches Dominar 400 at Rs. 1.36 lakh (Disc brake variant) & Rs. 1.5 lakh (ABS variant)

power cruiser?? Wonder why they are positioning it as a cruiser? It does not have an exceptionally large fuel tank, there is no proper wind protection, there is not special provision to mount panniers, etc. Even a tank bag will hide the secondary display. I feel this D400 is a good multi-purpose bike. Almost a bike that do it all except may be hard off-road. At 182kgs and with not so low seat height (meaning higher CG), it may not be as flickable as its duke sibling, but looks good enough to tear through the city traffic. at 182 kgs, it should feel planted enough on the highway. Ergonomics seems upright and neutral and long hours in saddle should not pose issues like with 390 rear set foot pegs. perimeter frame and 17" wheels mean it should be good fun enough in twisties. The rear seat even looks comfy for the pillion. to me, it looks like a one bike which does not excel in any particular genre, but can do most of the things well. A true jack of all at a very good price point. A good and long test ride should reveal a lot more. Waiting to get one!!

Guys,

Apologies for uploading an incorrect comparison image in hurry. Have asked mods about the corrective action.

From the Dominar 400 Booklet - Torque of 28 Nm at 3000 rpm to a maximum of 35 Nm at 4000 rpm

Interestingly the RE 350 does 28 Nm of max torque at 4000 rpm.

The hint is clear according to me

Wow, I think I am getting swayed with these kind of numbers.

But!!! While the message is clear that they are taking the fight to RE. Mr. Bajaj has talked about that on numerous occasions, it will be need to be seen if it can really deliver that.

The problem with here is that, RE is more of an aspirational purchase that something that is thought through with numbers and facts compared. So as Bajaj product at the end of the day it still not got the foothold of RE.

Yep Bajaj has to make sure that the D400 is aspirational.

The product looks and feels up to the mark. They now have to make sure that it is the same in the "mind" of the consumer as well.

Looking forward to its ride experience now
