re: My Milky Bar: Suzuki Access 125 Special Edition. EDIT: 10 months & 4th service completed

Got the first " free service" done from my dealer which is Automatic Suzuki on Sinhgad Road, Pune.
Cost me around 600 Rupees. As expected, Suzuki dealers are no less than their Honda counterparts. Poor coordination, unfinished jobs, and sloppy work coupled along with a careless attitude. I'm not surprised at all...!

-My front brake disc has a whining/ chirping sound at lower speeds right from the first 100-200 kms. The brake-caliper was removed and re-greased after which the noise disappeared but came back after sometime.
-The starter keeps engaged for a few seconds longer than usual especially during the first start. The service guys say it's normal with every bike
- I don't know why, but I feel that the BS4 scooters have considerably reduced pickup and power. It's set very lean on the carburetor. The test ride experience last year on the new access seemed different from the scooter I have.
- The front forks compress too quickly under medium braking and when you ride over bumps and bad roads.
- The scooter is very smooth to ride at almost all speeds. I havent yet exceeded 60 kmph though. I get around 40-42 kmpl under " economy" driving (riding at speeds which fall in the "economy" speed band on the speedometer).

The nose diving phenomenon most of you all complaining is common with disc brake fitted vehicles. It's just new to scooters. It just exemples the power of brakes, nothing to worry.

Its rough times for all 'Tech park' folk in Bangalore. You should speak to the senior management at Advaith. Remember, your thread here got them 15-20 customers, try and leverage that to get them to 'excuse' you missing your service and give you the extended warranty

About the mileage, a Colleague of mine has the Access too. He used to get 60ish in the beginning but it has now dropped to 45 thereabouts. He has 2,000 kilometers on his odometer. Guess that is where the Access will settle down

Nose diving happens on all 2-wheelers with drum or disk brakes...its just the compression of the front forks under transfer of load. The problem is the rate at which the spring compresses is what matters. Damping is also important hence a use of slightly thicker fork oil should improve the front feel.

re: My Milky Bar: Suzuki Access 125 Special Edition. EDIT: 10 months & 4th service completed

Tuned the carburetor on my Access today. I let the initial 1200 kms running in be done and decided to re tune the carburetor as I felt it was set lean.

It was factory set lean at approx 2 turns anti-clockwise from fully in position. Used to have difficulty in kick starting it for the first time in the morning. Now, it's about 1.25 in the anti-clockwise position.

It has not made much of an effect on the mileage but since my average speeds have increased ( running in period of about 1200 kms over) I might get lower mileage.

For those who feel the bike is running lean, I suggest turning the air screw clockwise by 1/2 a turn. Attaching an image of the carburetor ( sorry for the picture quality)

I am seeing a similarity in the cold start issues in your case too.

I too had to kick 20 to 25 times for it to start (in my Activa 125) plus it used to switch off when slowing down everytime. Had a near death experience one day so got it rectified with my friend.

See the thread for details:

Well that's scary Anurag...! I'm telling you the factory settings are only for tail pipe emissions to be met when the vehicle exits the factory. We must re-tune it to our real time driving conditions.
You could also try re-setting your Activa carb the way I have done it and it will work wonders. In your case increase the idling too so it wouldn't die off.

My friend and I did set the idling and fuelling correctly. She is riding super smooth and normal. No switching off whatsoever.

Idling RPM is the range of 1620 to 1650. I just checked out at home 4 days back.

Oh that's nice to hear. How did you measure the idling speed? Do you have a "snap on" digital tachometer?

Not sure of full accuracy but does the job for the price. Reading refresh rate is on the slower side.

This is good! Have you cross referenced it with a bike/ car having a tachometer in the dash to see its its accurate enough?

Yes. I checked it on my friends CBZ Xtreme, difference was around ~50 rpm.

If the tachometer reads 1500 on the bike, the inductive tachometer read 1440 to 1460 varying.

Cool. What kind of gas mileage do you get from the Activa 125? I wasn't expecting it..but the Access gives around 46~48 kmpl after I re-tuned it. My scooter has just done 1200 Kms. So typically a full tank refill gives me a range of about 245-250 kms. in urban conditions with the speed not exceeding 60 kmph.

Hardly check the FE to be honest.

After she had run 1000 kms, checked for two full tanks and got 49.7 and 51.3 kmpl. Didn't go above 60 kmph during these two full tanks.

Don't check now a days.
