Re: Yamaha teases new naked motorcycle. EDIT: FZ25 launched at Rs. 1.20 lakh

I am traveling or tied down with work, so not been able to ride much. A friend has done 2200+ kms and appears very happy with the FZ-25. He went from Pune to Kerala & back.

You guys should be getting your registration done tomorrow.
Today showroom guys called saying FZ25 registration is open and if I can make the full payment today they can register tomorrow and avoid extra road tax (~6k) post 1-April.

Asked how can they register without chassis number, they said bike is in transit and they received all details about the same, I hope so

Made full payment today and will be receiving my registration details tomorrow EOD. Bike delivery is still around 10 days away

I always get my vehicles registered from the Jayanagar RTO nma83.

I am not sure what I may end up with, but I understand that the current series is 6500 or something.

So I can almost see my registration number as:

KA 05 XX 65XX

My Dominar was registered in first week of March with KA05 Jz 9***. So now you are saying it is 6500 series, so it might be KA series.

Re: Yamaha teases new naked motorcycle. EDIT: FZ25 launched at Rs. 1.20 lakh

Is any dealer giving out test-rides in Bangalore ? Called up a few like Orion, Perfect Riders, etc and all they can offer is a bike startup and sound.

I am quite interested in this to replace my ageing 220, but want a TR before throwing down the gandhi's !!

EDIT: PS: What is the regular service interval and when is the 1st service ?

The first service is either 60 days or 1000 kilometers. Rest services are 5,000 kilometers or 6 months IIRC.

To give you a fair idea, if you have ridden the FZ/Fazer series, this is just the bigger cousin with no USP, but in my books, this was/is the biggest advantage.

I am surprised that no dealer is giving out test-rides, no one from *our* old boy group has got one or any of their friend/s?

As their second/commuter bike?

And here, I can't seem to get the hang of 50bhp motorcycles.

Re: Yamaha teases new naked motorcycle. EDIT: FZ25 launched at Rs. 1.20 lakh

A friend got the 250, Did a ride on this bike yesterday, done 160km. Loved the simplicity of the bike & yet you will know it's a Yamaha once you swing a leg over. Engine has got a robust feeling to it & is a silent cruiser at 80kmph. Tank capacity is bigger than my Apache 200 & the FZ is more fuel efficient than my 200, so a better tank range can be expected from this bike.

Brilliant update there Sportztourer, and I think you would be the man to post the differences between the two

Work and a lit of laziness has kept me away from posting an ownership report of my FZ25.
But I have made it a "Mission" to get it out ASAP.

In the meanwhile, it would be a good read if you can post your observations between your RTR200 and FZ25.

Thanks @Vik0728, in the last few months a few of my friends have made an interesting switch to these bikes. For now I am enjoying frequent rides of the Dominar 400, FZ 25 & of course the RTR 200 ( My love towards RTR has increased in multiple times after the ~2000km Bangalore ride).
Yes will post the observations made on these bikes & eagerly waiting for your review.

Dear Sportztourer,

From last few days, I am also on the hunt. Shortlisted were the FZ 250 and RTR 200 4V. Wandering, I came across your ownership thread and a long journey you did on your RTR, which inspired me to have a TD. Now that the TD experiences turned out to be positive for both the bikes, the comparo like the above was exactly what I was looking for and I think you are in right position to give inputs.

Meanwhile, I would take the liberty to shoot some questions and will be thankful if you could answer them.
  1. Are those the plastic tanks? If yes, is it dangerous to have in case of any mishap?
  2. What was the RPM range when you were cruising at 80kmph on FZ?
  3. Headlight on FZ isn't much impressive with the poor spread, can it be adjusted?
  4. Anything you would like to add is welcome.

Hi 337699gsd,
1. Yes both the bikes have plastic tank. Even I am coming from RTR 180 which had a metal tank. I don't think plastic tanks will be an issue as the FZ is having plastic tank on the 150cc variant from a long time. The tank is made up of twin layer. The tank which we see is just like a body panel while the actual fuel storing tank is inside it, so I don't think a plastic tank will be more dangerous than a metal tank in case of an accident (let's have some faith on the R&D and testing of Yamaha & TVS) . Yes replacement can be costly as you cannot repair the dent & then paint the plastic tank.

2. 80kmph comes at a shade cross 5000RPM
90kmph at 6000RPM
100kmph at ~6500RPM

3. Headlight intensity is good but can't say the same about the beam spread. Yes, you can adjust the headlight level. I will try to make a video of the headlight performance of the FZ 25 just like I did it for the Dominar & RTR so that you guys can check it out.

4. Let me ride the bike a bit more (a weekend ride is already scheduled) so that I can observe & put in the points properly. You can post you questions here so that I can check them out while riding & other FZ 25 owners here (who obviously know this bike better than me) can reply.
All the best with the decision making!
