The 2017 Yamaha R15 V3. EDIT: Launched in India at Rs. 1.25 lakhs

Undisguised spy shots of Yamaha's next generation R15 has emerged from Indonesia. It looks sharper than the current gen R15. With more power on tap and its renowned handling intact, it will be an unbeatable beginner's track tool. It is expected to be launched in India this year.

Earlier this year, in an interview with a newspaper, Yamaha confirmed that the new R15 will be much more powerful, faster, refined, and feature-rich than ever before.

re: The 2017 Yamaha R15 V3. EDIT: Launched in India at Rs. 1.25 lakhs

The faired version finally out there testing! The new R15 Version 3.0 seems to be taking a new route as its elder siblings and Yamaha have got out the snake eyes headlamps from the version 2.0(Finally!).

The headlamps which have replaced seem to be much sleeker and also inspired from the R6 in some angles. Though IMO they resemble the ones on 2016 Honda CBR 500R (Source)

Also the fairing has more character lines than the previous iteration which is again a good news and looks great in black.

Though the red one again reminds me of the 2015 CBR 250R paint combination.

USD forks, fully digital instrument cluster, optional ABS, etc. hope this version has some more features as a surprise. Since it is expected to be equipped with a 155cc engine hope to get some extra bump in power as well.

The current V2.0 sells around 3000 units per month in India. It will be interesting to see when Yamaha plans on bringing the Version 3.0 here. The FZ 250 was also recently teased and is expected to be unveiled soon. Wonder how it would affect the V3.0 sales if the power and torque figures aren't too far off and the pricing is right.

The new R15 looks more like the R3 especially from the front end (headlights). Though not bad for R15, I just hope the bike is more powerful and does get ABS.

Yamaha needs to provide ABS on the R3 in India first. Add a perimeter frame to that list (for R3) as well.

Regarding more power: How much more power can be realistically squeezed out of that 150 cc engine?

Omg. Brilliant looks. Is it still on the Deltabox frame? If yes, then handling will still be sublime. Hope they increase the capacity to 200cc atleast (highly unlikely but what's the harm in hoping?).

But damn those killer looks. This bike with it's epic handling and feedback just demands more power! Something which the R3 was supposed to be but couldn't.

re: The 2017 Yamaha R15 V3. EDIT: Launched in India at Rs. 1.25 lakhs

One thing I want to see improved, on the next gen R15, is headlights. The headlights of v1 and v2 were too weak (on par with other 150cc bikes).

Infact, my first fall was due to this weak headlights (in my 2010 R15 v1). I completely missed a pothole at night. The road was a good dual carriage way, so I wasnt expecting any potholes. But my speed was around 40 and I was kitted, so escaped without injuries.

Yamaha should also think about diversifying the R15 portfolio around that engine and frame, by bringing in a streetfighter and a tourer version(?).

Five happy years have passed since I got my R15.
Good looking, reliable and fun bike.
But I hate the service interval of 3 Months.

I expect the new model to be more fun and less expensive to maintain.

3000 Per Service at the Yamaha ASC.
But thanks to Shell, I can make do with a plane jane oil change for <400INR.
I only give it to the ASC once a year.

Really?? That is just too much. My Honda City service costs around that much.

My R15 is 7 years old and I dont stick to the 3 month guideline anymore. My running nowadays is too less to justify servicing every 3 months. Instead, I service it every 3000 kms. The last time I did was in october and was charged around 900 including oil change, coolant and brake fluid top-up, by the ASC.

R15 V3.0 has been launched in Indonesia.

Sorry for the poor quality of the video, scroll to 1:27 for closer pics of the bike.

The Indonesia website still shows V2.0.

This looks like a proper hooligan bike. City riding should be a concern though. It is going to need lots of revs to keep it moving. A short-ratio gearbox should spicen things up.

Speaks volumes of how important is the Indonesian market vis - a - vis the Indian market.

Rossi launching it too. Indonesians are MotoGP Crazy like we Indians are Cricket Crazy.

P.S: The manufacturer is not to be blamed.

R15 sales in India has been around 2.5-2.5 k units per month compared to the RE Classics that are averaging at around 30-40k per month.

Both the R15 and the RE Classic were launched in 2008.
