Was in same dilemma as you. With my hefty build and 5.9" height, I am also looking to replace my xtreme. But the problem is, these days all bikes come with non existent pillion seat with the exception of 100 cc bikes and single channel abs. Narrowed down to Yamaha FZ 25, Thunderbird 350 and Dominar.

Fz 25 has niggles as reported by users (weak headlight, not so great build quality).

Thunderbird 350 x with tubeless tyres and dual ABS was launched. Was disappointed with the seat. Also 3,000 service intervals was short for me as i commute around 60 - 90 kms per day. Thunderbird requires around 6 services in a year

Dominar has all the features one would require with the best headlight, comfortable seats for rider and pillion with good build quality. Dominar has 5,000 kms interval service and oil change every 10,000 kms. For my usage Dominar requires around 3 services in a year. Consumable Spare parts are affordable. Only expensive spare part is the chain kit which costs Rs.4,000. Tyres need replacement @ 20,000 - 25,000 Kms. Fuel efficiency is around 30 kms in city and the 13 liter tank has usable range of 11 liters that is around 330 kilometers. Barring the above three Dominar is the best bet.

There are reports Hero Moto corp is launching two bikes in March xplulse 200 T and xpulse. Xuplse t is the touring version and xpluse is the dirt bike version.

I am interested in x pulse 200 T. The pillion looks good. Hope hero motors launch it the earliest.

Waiting for the updated Dominar 400. Will finalise between thunderbird 350 x, dominar and x pulse 200 t.

Well the details of the new Dominar which is called the Dominar UG are out, here are the differences between the original Dominar and the UG Dominar.

Also the older Dominar owners can get the the below options from the new bikes fitted in their bikes -

1)USD forks
2)Exhaust
3)Mirrors

The below details have been shared with permission from Sambhav Nahar who owns Hyperrider and is a part of Khivraj Bajaj.

Dominar is a capable bike - only if Bajaj had got their marketing tactics right, the product would’ve done better. On the other hand, upgraded bike has good amount of features. Hope it draws in the required sales. Certainly do not want a good bike ride into the sunset in the coming years owing to poor sales. Also, the forks shouldn’t have got chrome treatment because it makes it difficult to flaunt its USD forks as the entire set seems like non USD fork set. Anyways all the best to dominar.

re: Ridden: Bajaj Dominar 400

The updated specifications seem good, especially the inclusion of USD forks. Atleast this time, I sincerely hope that Bajaj has a proper marketing strategy in place, that focuses on the product's strengths, rather than ridiculing their competition, to make this fly off the showrooms. Infact, Bajaj should learn a thing or two from RE on product marketing.

Ever thought of considering the Himalayan, I believe it should fulfill your requirements-
1- 5000Km service Interval
2-Comfortable for long rides
3-Comfortable Pillion seat
4- ABS
No doubt, the Dominar is a good proposition, just adding an option.

re: Ridden: Bajaj Dominar 400

In the specification sheet they have explicitly mentioned about both Dominar and Dominar UG. Does this mean that both the models will co-exist in products line-up?. Earlier Mahindra did something similar with Mojo. New rules will not allow them to place a Non-ABS version and this seems the only possibility to keep the starting price down.

Bajaj discontinued Non-ABS version of Dominar long back.

re: Ridden: Bajaj Dominar 400

The WEIGHT bothers me.

At 184.5 Kgs it in the HAATHI category (at least in terms of weight). Though a bit of weight is dersirable for comfortable long distance riding.

The bike sure does weigh on the higher side. I've ridden this bike a fair bit and I can hardly feel the bike being that heavy, and this coming from a guy who's height is a mere 5'-4/5".
I can only feel it's weight when I'm at a standstill on an undulated road or if I'm taking a 90° turn at very low speeds. Also the bike feels longer than other bikes, maybe because I'm used to riding smaller bikes with a smaller footprint.

Yes they discontinued the Non-ABS version long time back.
Haven't they discontinued the Non-ABS version of the NS/RS 200s as well?

All the 200cc bikes including 220F and Duke has both ABS and Non-ABS versions selling alongside each other.

I was looking at Himalayan despite its past niggles. But it does not have tubeless tyre option. If Royal Enifield would have given a road version with alloy wheels and tubeless tyres, I would have definitely considered it. But no such option. Waiting for Hero Motors to launch xtreme 200 t.

Seems like the secondary console on the tank is also changed to a digital display in Dominar UG compared to the older console having just tell tale lights. Did anyone noted it?

Done to accommodate the info that has been replaced in the main console.

The upside being you don't have to reach far ahead to reset the trip meters now.

Looks so cool with an all digital display. Didn't knew that they have moved the trip meter to the secondary display. The downside though is you can't see any of these data with tank bags up.

re: Ridden: Bajaj Dominar 400

To me, personally, that gear indicator is the best upgrade. I don't really find anything wrong with the forks to lust after the USD version.

Also, the bump in power appears to be from the redesigned exhaust plus a remap since the engine specs remain identical. Or did I miss a DOHC mention somewhere?

I recently took off the endcan from my bike. It revs noticeably quicker (feels faster because of this) with a throatier exhaust note. About as loud as a Duke, not more. I'm guessing it may have bumped the power up slightly too. Also, since the catcon is housed in the midpipe, removing the endcan is absolutely fine.

Here's mine: (Before the endcan was removed.)
