Scoop! Aprilia SR 150 Race Edition spotted. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 70,288

Thank you to the Team-BHP fan (he prefers to remain anonymous) who sent these images in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts!

Aprilia is planning to launch a Race Edition model of its entry-level gearless scooter - the Aprilia SR 150. It will officially be launched in India on February 9, 2017. The SR 150 Race Edition will come with some cosmetic tweaks, while it is expected to remain mechanically unchanged.

Cosmetic changes visible in the images include a new grey colour with red & green body graphics, a gold-coloured front brake caliper, red alloy wheels and a red spring for the rear shock absorber. Other design elements are expected to remain unchanged.

Aprilia had launched the SR 150 in India in August last year. It is powered by a 154.4 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, which churns out 10.4 BHP @ 7,000 rpm and 11.5 Nm of torque @ 5,500 rpm. It is currently priced at Rs. 68,806 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Earlier they had said a new 'peppier' bike would be launched in early 2017. Perhaps there are some tuning tweaks to the bike as well ?
Any news of an SR 125 ? Or ABS/Combi brakes on the SR 150 ? How necessary are these features just out of curiosity since Im going to buy my first scooter soon and was strongly leaning towards the SR 150

I hope they update the suspension ASAP and make it more Indian road friendly. The present setup is rock hard. If they introduce a pliant suspension then at least us first lot of buyers can get them replaced.

Phew! Luckily this is not offered as a standard variant! Just too colorful and void of any sportiness!

Read somewhere that the engine has been re-tuned for better performance, no??

Would probably be just a "graphics" job. It's easy just to change the graphics and paint the caliper gold and the spring yellow. That way they could charge some premium on it.
Else, its an improved variant of the current lot which has a few mechanical glitches.
I doubt if it will have improved performance as that will create extra model variant complexity. But who knows...!

Can they upgrade it with ABS probably? Or Combi-brakes?

I suspect some minor changes to the powertrain courtesy the sticker on the same.

The regular SR150's read 'SR MOTARD', while this one reads 'SR SPORT'.

Its a sticker & paint job to make it "peppier" - what ever that means, but is expected to cost more by a "few" thousand rupees. Read this link for the leaked brochure.

re: Scoop! Aprilia SR 150 Race Edition spotted. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 70,288

They have launched it at Rs 70288, that means around 2000 Rs for a paintjob.

Having used my SR150 for 1200+ kms now, I say that its a good machine but the dealership experience is a nightmare. BTW the plain black mat is 300 rs and rear protection frame with integrated footrest is 1600 rs.

re: Scoop! Aprilia SR 150 Race Edition spotted. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 70,288

Aprilia SR 150 Race launched at Rs. 70,288

Aprilia has launched the SR 150 Race in India at a price of Rs. 70,288 (ex-showroom, Mumbai). As revealed in earlier scoop images, the SR 150 Race gets a new sticker livery that is inspired by Aprilia's 2016 Moto GP bike, the RS-GP. It also comes in a new Maze Grey body colour. The 14-inch alloys are finished in red colour, so is the spring for the rear monoshock. The front disc brake gets a gold coloured caliper, while Aprilia is also offering a race boom exhaust as an accessory.

Powering the SR 150 Race edition is the same 154.8 cc, single-cylinder engine that churns out 10.4 BHP @ 6,750 rpm and 11.4 Nm of torque @ 5,000 rpm. However, Aprilia claims that the bike has been tuned for faster acceleration. Braking duties are handled by a 220 mm disc at the front and 140 mm drum at the rear.

The Aprilia SR 150 was launched in India in August last year. The company claims to have sold 10,289 units of the scooter till December 2016. The standard model is priced at Rs. 67,200 (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Re: Scoop! Aprilia SR 150 Race Edition spotted. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 70,288

According to this article :
http://www.ibtimes.co.in/more-aprili...-expect-715666

There are going to be 2 new variants launched within a years time and they are looking to improve/soften/localize the front forks on the existing model, which a lot of people have said are too stiff, almost uncomfortable.

This is kind of bad news for me as I was planning on picking one up in April. Now i guess I will have to wait as I dont want to suffer from buyers remorse if the updates come out in a few months after I buy one.
An ABS or Combi brake version was also on the cards and that too is one thing I wouldn want to miss out on as a first time bike owner.

I read somewhere that the revised CVT ratios will mean you get an extra edge in the first 200m from the point the traffic light turns green.

Thankfully it's not a paintjob! Looks like Aprilia has given it a slight retune and different CVT ratios to help the initial grunt.

Now that's a first in the Indian market I believe!
