2017 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 gets FI engine

Royal Enfield has updated the Bullet 500 with a tweaked engine that now comes with fuel injection. No other mechanical changes have been made to the updated model. Currently, the only bikes in the line-up to have a carbureted engine are the Bullet 350, Classic 350 and the Thunderbird 350.

The 2017 Bullet 500 is powered by a 499 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that now features electronic fuel injection. It develops 27.2 BHP @ 5,250 rpm and 41.3 Nm @ 4,000 rpm, while being mated to a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox. The aforementioned power and torque figures of the Bullet 500 FI mark a minor increment, as compared to the output of the earlier carburetted version that was rated at 26.1 BHP and 40.9 Nm.

The Bullet 500 is equipped with 35 mm telescopic forks at the front that offer a suspension travel of 130 mm, while the rear gets two gas shock absorbers with 5-step preload adjustment, offering 80 mm suspension travel. Braking duties are handled by 280 mm disc with 2-piston calliper at the front and 153 mm drum at the rear.

With the Electra now gone, this is now the new entry level 500cc Bull.

However, with minuscule price difference with respect to the Classic 500, i wonder why someone would prefer this over the Classic. (Just asking!)

Everything else remaining the same, the seat of a Bullet is more comfortable than that of a Classic. Also the "stance " of a bullet is different from classic, and has its own charm

I have a classic 500. and would not call it the most comfortable!!

Some like me choose a Bullet 500 Std over the Classic as

1. 500 Std is the real classic look of India compared to 500 Classic being the classic of England.
2. 500 std would come with Carb which is a boon in a way over the long run compared to the cost of break down of FI in Classic.
3. The seating position is very comfortable.

Re: 2017 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 gets FI engine

I had mentioned few weeks ago both the Himalayan and the 500 to be moving to Efi in sometime.
With the 500 efi , now we have a modern bike in a classic look. Wonder what the price hike is going to be for the efi.

If ABS is added, this is actually a good bike for touring with its torque and comfortable riding stance.

I like it RE
one step at a time
Now the next logical step is to add ABS
The UCE 500 is now sorted out as far as a RE product is concerned.
Also it is in its most comfortable phase in the Product lifecycle, now what remains to be seen is when does it get the ABS

Re: 2017 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 gets FI engine

Really sad to see the carb'ed versions of the 500 and the Himalayan discontinued. The former has a fairly well tuned carb which I would prefer any day over the EFI version. It has good feedback from some people who go to Leh often. Fortunately, one can get the old parts from the SVC and convert both the bikes back to old school hassle-free carb. But the cost of purchase will go up. Really sad, indeed.
